Abbey Clancy seemed embarrassed over her previous music career when it was brought up in an interview this week.
The model, now 38, rose to fame with her modelling career more than a decade ago and later married footballer Peter Crouch, 43. She previously had a brief stint as a singer, having once been a member of the band Genie Queen.
She was reminded of the group during an appearance on Radio X's The Chris Moyles Show on Monday. Toby Tarrant, 32, hosted the radio host, with him stepping in for Chris Moyles, and he brought up the band during the interview.
Toby teased: "I love the Kooks, they're one of my favourite bands of all time, but not my favourite band of all time though, [Abbey], because my favourite band of all time is a band from a few years ago." He continued: "I don't know if you've heard of them, they're called The Genie Queen - are you familiar with their stuff?"
Abbey, who appeared embarrassed, replied: "No. That's cruel, Toby! [...] For God's sake." Toby quizzed: "Now, is it the Genie Queen, or is it just Genie Queen? Because Google offered different versions." Abbey clarified: "It's just Genie Queen, or GQ if you want to shorten it."
Abbey Clancy renews vows with Peter Crouch in idyllic Maldives beach ceremonyToby continued: "Yep, okay. Abbey, I can feel you staring into my soul, so I'm just not going to look at you." His co-host Dominic Byrne teased: "She's going smack you in the mouth." Toby went on to confirm: "But you were in a band called Genie Queen, back in the day."
Abbey said in response: "I didn't realise I was coming on to get stitched up." Toby then teased that he wanted to discuss her "famous discography" on the music station. Amused, Abbey laughed back: "Discography!"
Toby seemingly referenced one of the band's tracks, saying: "You know, 'Finger Licking' for example." The station began to play one of the band's songs. Abbey was heard screaming in response and then, as reported by the outlet, said: "Agh! I can't believe you've done this! You horrible, horrible… This is a remix I've never heard." She added: "I'm actually dying right now. You know, if there wasn't a desk in between us, I'd come and kill you."
Reflecting on her early ambitions, Abbey shared: "Yeah, I've always loved singing. I did want to be a popstar back in the day. And yeah, I was working in this incredible vintage shop in Liverpool - Bulletproof it was called. And when hot girls come in, I'd just be like, 'can you sing?' And Genie Queen was formed."
Toby later said: "Now, the Liverpool Echo said that you were the next big thing." Abbey joked: "Clearly the Liverpool Echo were wrong!"
Tune into Toby Tarrant (in for Chris Moyles) on Radio X weekdays from 6:30am - 10am and on Global Player.
