A BOEING 737 windscreen on an Alaskan Airlines flight cracked during landing on Sunday night.

It is another huge safety blunder for the aircraft airline following its recent spate of issues that have rocked the company.

The flight had been descending into Portland International Airport from Washington D.C. when it suffered a small crack on the inner windshield.

Despite the scare, the pilots managed to safely land the aircraft which was carrying 159 passengers and six crew members.

Alaska Airlines confirmed in a statement that the crack happened as the Boeing 737 aircraft was landing.

"The crew followed their checklists and the aircraft continued safely to its destination as scheduled," the airline said.

"Alaska Airlines' 737 fleet are outfitted with five-layer windscreens that have an outer pane, three inner layers and an inner pane.

"If an inner pane cracks, the other pane and layers can maintain cabin pressure."

According to the company, the aircraft will be inspected and repaired by engineers on the ground.

The Sun has approached Boeing for comment.

The incident is just the latest the American plane maker has had to deal with so far this year.

It comes just days after a Boeing plane was found to be missing an external panel following a short haul flight.

The plane landed safely but the missing section was not noticed by crew during the 90-minute journey, with an investigation now underway.

Last week, a Boeing 777 was forced to make an emergency landing after a "mechanical problem" saw one of its tyres "blow".

The jet had left Dallas, Texas with 249 passengers onboard before it was forced to touch down at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) just hours later as firecrews rushed to the runway.

Less than 48 hours earlier, footage captured the shock moment a United Airlines Boeing 777 leaked hydraulic fluid during takeoff before being forced to make an emergency landing.

The United Airlines flight quickly lost hydraulic pressure after getting airborne as smoke and fluid began pouring out, with crew not receiving any warnings for almost two hours.

On March 7, a wheel dropped from a packed plane during takeoff at an airport in San Francisco, crushing cars beneath it.

Emergency services were on standby at LAX Airport as the plane made an uneventful landing and stopped about two thirds of the way down a runway.

But the most notable incident came earlier this year when a fuselage panel ripped off an Alaskan Airlines flight midair and forced the plane to make an emergency landing in Portland.

A criminal investigation has since been launched into Boeing over the terrifying 16,000ft door blowout on January 5.
