Wrexham winger James McClean labelled Jean Belehouan a ‘wally’ for celebrating Tranmere's crucial win on Saturday.
At the Racecourse Ground, the Red Dragons suffered a blow to their bid for automatic promotion from League Two as local rivals Tranmere secured a 1-0 win. Tranmere are still hoping to pull off a late surge into the play-off places, which meant the victory was crucial - and the players celebrated wildly as a result.
As Tranmere celebrated on enemy turf, tempers flared as Wrexham players took exception to the post-game antics. The two teams feuded in an on-pitch skirmish at full-time, with Rovers defender Belehouan firing up the travelling fans despite failing to come off the bench and being an unused substitute.

Once tempers calmed, McClean - who missed the game as he served a suspension due to yellow card accumulation - immediately took to social media to call out Belehouan. On Instagram, the Irishman wrote: “Absolute wally, not sure what’s more embarrassing, him giving it large whilst being an unused sub during the game or the fact that he was an unused sub for them.”

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson claimed he missed the on-field feud but played down its severity and is confident no further action will be taken.
“I had gone down the tunnel,” Parkinson said. “Someone mentioned it to me but I was actually unaware of it until then. I don't know whether the referee had gone down the tunnel as well at the time. It is something you don't want to happen but emotions were running high.”
Wrexham failed to score with any of their 25 shots deployed on the Tranmere goal, yet Parkinson refuses to dwell on the frustrating performance ahead of a crucial run of games. He added: “We have got to reflect on this. There's so much to play for.
“This isn't a defining defeat although it was a local derby and we know what it means not only to our supporters but players and staff as well. But it is not a season-defining defeat. We are in a strong position and we have got to dust ourselves down, and get ready to go again at Grimsby next week.”
Wrexham are level on points with second-placed Stockport and five adrift of League Two leaders Mansfield. However, only goal difference is keeping them above MK Dons while Barrow is only six points adrift with eight games remaining. Wrexham travel to face Grimsby Town in their next league contest at Blundell Park on 23rd March.
