Transfer deal sheets explained as Premier League clubs race to complete moves

The January transfer window will finally reach its conclusion this week after a dramatic 31 days of ins and outs at clubs up and down the country, with many still aiming to get deals over the line right until the very last second.

Yet again a sensational amount of money has been spent by Premier League clubs this winter, following on from a summer when more than £2billion had flogged at football stars.

Here is all you need to know about the transfer deadline for English clubs, including what time the winter window closes and how long clubs have to keep doing business.

When does the transfer window close?

The January transfer window opened on Sunday, January 1 and will close on Tuesday, January 31.

What time is the transfer deadline?

English clubs will have up until 11pm on deadline day to complete all their deals before the transfer window shuts.

They will also have until this time to fill out any deal sheets to ensure any uncompleted transfers can still go through.

What is a deal sheet?

Clubs will be able to submit a ‘deal sheet’ in the final two hours of the window if they are tight for time on completing a transfer.

As long as this deal sheet has been submitted ahead of the 11pm deadline, teams can still complete that transfer after the window has closed, with most transfers usually announced by 1am on September 2.

Can clubs still sign players after the deadline?

English clubs will only be able to sign players if they are free agents or brought in on an emergency loan before the transfer window reopens in June.

What about Scotland?

The transfer window in Scotland will remain open for an extra hour until midnight, meaning that Scottish Premiership clubs can still buy and sell players up until this point.

For Premier League clubs, this means that they can only sell or loan out players to their northern neighboursfor the extra hour, and not buy any from the Scottish clubs.
