Aaron Taylor Johnson's fate as James Bond has been addressed by the bosses behind the franchise.

Speculation has been rife suggesting that the British star is just days away from signing on the dotted line to step into the shoes of His Majesty's spy dubbed 007. It comes three years after Daniel Craig's last outing as Bond in the movie No Time To Die. But bosses behind the series have now spoken out about the speculation and Taylor-Johnson's future.

Aaron, 33, has made it no secret that he would be prepared to take on the role and previously stated that the speculation was "flattering".

Responding to the speculation, a production insider on James Bond has now told the BBC there is "no truth in the rumours" about Taylor-Johnson taking on the role. Speaking previously to Numéro magazine, Aaron said: "I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment."

EON Productions, which makes the spy thriller movie, is set to start shooting the latest offering from the franchise this year, and Aaron is reportedly on board for what will be the biggest role of his career. "Bond is Aaron's job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back. As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement," an insider told The Sun.

It comes weeks after Barbara Broccoli, the boss behind EON recently stated that there are no plans for the upcoming Bond film. "There's nothing I can tell you about the next Bond film," she told Deadline, adding: "There's nothing. Nothing is happening yet." Thousands of avid fans of the 007 franchise had put their money on Idris Elba taking over the iconic role from Craig.

Elsewhere, Cillian Murphy insisted last week that he's "too old" to play the role, shooting down feverish excitement surrounding the Oscar-winning star becoming the next 007. The Irish actor, 47, was reportedly top of film bosses lists after his incredible portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's masterpiece, Oppenheimer.

Peaky Blinders actor Cillian impressed bosses so much after his BAFTA-winning performance that they are said to be desperate for him to take on the legendary role which was previously filled by fellow Irish actor Pierce Brosnan, as well as Sean Connery, and Roger Moore.
