It might look all sequins and smiles but behind the scenes, Strictly can really take its toll on the stars.

Will Young says he suffered panic attacks “24 hours a day” before he pulled out of his stint in 2016, where he was partnered with Karen Clifton. Now healthier mentally, the singer says he would love to go back to the ballroom to complete his aborted stint, which he admits was “the hardest point” in his career.

“I wish I had experienced it when I wasn’t ill, because I would’ve loved it,” he says. “I love dancing, I trained in ballet and contemporary. I was actually really excited about doing the show but just leaving the house going 20 yards to the corner shop was hard. I was in the middle of a protracted breakdown and PTSD, and I learned very quickly I wasn’t able to do this. It was a heightened agoraphobia.

“Imagine having panic attacks 24 hours a day. I don’t know how I managed it, to be honest.” Will, 45, adds that he would actually prefer to compete now that same-sex couples can dance together, which was introduced with Nicola Adams and Katya Jones in 2020. If I did it now, I would dance with a male partner,” Will tells the How to Fail podcast.

His new single, Falling Deep, is out now. His Light It Up tour goes on the road later this year.

There might have been “daggers” out for his reluctance to wed but one of Taylor Swift’s digs at Joe Alwyn will hurt way more than anything else: ruining his favourite pub.

Managers have confirmed a “certain blonde regular” frequented the venue before her lyrics made it a hotspot for her fans. The singer, 34, included some thinly veiled venom on The Tortured Poets Department that has been pored over by fans who have linked it to Joe and another ex, Matty Healy.

But subtly, Taylor’s new record has really stuck the knife into Joe much more savagely by name-checking The Black Dog in Vauxhall, South London, which has directed her army of Swifties to besiege the place. Business is booming, so perhaps if Joe ever braves it back there, they might pour him a pint on the house.

Snow show for Gwyn at trial musical

Unsurprisingly, Gwyneth Paltrow will not be snapping up a ticket to watch a musical written about her ski trial collision. The actress, 51, won the case against an accuser who compared her to King Kong as he claimed she hurtled into him on the slopes.

And there was plenty of equally ludicrous content in the trial to amuse theatre-going audiences. But not Gwyn. “I try not to engage much in that kind of stuff,” she says, diplomatically, to Cultured magazine. “I let it be what it is.” Gwyneth Goes Skiing went down well in London and has now moved to Utah, where the ski incident and the trial took place.
