Six years after being the top earner in the NFL, details of Jimmy Garoppolo's new contract with the Los Angeles Rams have been revealed.
Garoppolo, who will miss the first two games of the 2024 season due to a suspension after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, joined the Rams after being let go by the Las Vegas Raiders. This happened just a year after the Raiders gave him a three-year deal worth $72.75 million (£57.8m) to be their starting quarterback.
The deal that Garoppolo signed with the Raiders paid him $24.5 million per season, after being on $27.5 million per season following his 2018 extension with the 49ers.
However his $11.25m guarantee was voided after his positive PED test, which means he violated the NFL's Performance Enhancing Substances Policy. He has admitted that he 'messed up' and is now looking for a chance to reset after a tough couple of years.

After injury and poor play cost him his starting job, he was on the lookout for a new team in free agency and has landed with the Rams where he will back-up Super Bowl-winning quarterback Matthew Stafford - but his contract details show how far he has fallen.
'Jimmy G''s deal in Los Angeles is nowhere near the $27.5million (£21.8m) a year deal he signed with the San Francisco 49ers. That deal made him the highest paid player in the league after his impressive start in the Bay Area.
Garoppolo's new contract with the Rams was signed when the new league started and at first, no details were given. However, NFL Network reports that his basic pay will be $4.5million (£3.6m) and various bonuses could increase the deal to $12m (£9.5m).
These bonuses are likely to depend on him becoming the starting player at SoFi Stadium. Stafford has had a tough time in the last two seasons due to injuries. If he gets injured again, it's likely that Garoppolo will be the one to step in and take his place.
His reset in Las Vegas failed to get going. After just a few weeks, it seemed evident that Garoppolo was not for long with the Raiders, and following the firing of Josh McDaniels he found himself dropped and outplayed by fifth-round rookie Aidan O'Connell.
Under new head coach Antonio Pierce, Garoppolo was made available this offseason but had no interest from around the league before being released and replaced by Gardner Minshew.
But now serving as the back-up, and unlikely to earn a shot at winning the starting spot unless Stafford goes down, Garoppolo's salary is similar to the likes of back-ups Drew Lock (New York Giants) and Marcus Mariota (Washington Commanders) who signed deals worth around $5 million per year.
Garoppolo struggled mightily during his team with the Raiders, throwing just seven touchdowns to nine interceptions in seven starts - before suffering an injury and failing to regain his starting spot.
Stafford has had a tough time in the last two seasons due to injuries. If he gets injured again, it's likely that Garoppolo will be the one to step in and take his place.
