Strictly Come Dancing star Zara McDermott has been spotted hobbling around after suffering a stress fracture in her tibia.
The 27-year-old former Love Island contestant was a competitor on the BBC’s Strictly last year where she was paired with 29-year-old Italian dance professional Graziano Di Prima - but they crashed out of the contest after five weeks. Now it seems dancing is firmly off the activities list for the immediate future as the star is suffering through injury and is in need of surgery.
Zara had previously told fans that she had already been warned by doctors that she could need further surgery after previously being diagnosed with the break. The star is, at least, getting a tan - as she has been on holiday in Gran Canaria and spotted out and about wearing a moon boot.
She has been sharing snaps and videos from her trip - having jetted off for some winter sun along with her family. Footage has shown her wearing backless tops and with her hair tied back in a high pony. She has also been sharing envy-inducing scenes of sun-soaked swimming pools and holiday scenes.
Zara recently shared with fans that she may need to be operated on to help her injury heal. She declared on Instagram: "This evening I'm heading to the hospital because while I was away I got some news from my Dr about my tibia fracture. The good news is that there is some small evidence of healing! Yay!
What Ola and James Jordan really ate and did to shed 7st"However he said he can see that the bone surrounding the fracture is under a lot of tension/pressure... whatever that means? Surgery is still an option but I've opted for the most natural route which is to try and help it heal on its own... Which means for the next few months I'm going to be on crutches and in a boot, which I'm being fitted for today.
"I've had to pull out of a few work things over the next few weeks because I know I need to prioritise my leg healing, but I'm hoping this is the beginning of the end now!"
This after she previously shared painful details of her injury. She said previously: "So I have quite a significant stress fracture in my tibia that isn't healing. It stretches pretty much the entire width of my bone.
"The professor who operated on me back in December has advised that I am likely to need further surgery where they put metal screws and plates above and below the fractured area to fuse it together."
She also explained that she was struggling to find information about her condition online, and turned to fans for help. She asked: "How long were you off your feet for? How bad was it? I have lots of questions! ... I'm just weighing up whether to crack on and go ahead with the surgery or wait and hope that it starts to heal on its own. If it doesn't, then I will need to have surgery in 3-6 months anyway.
"Basically, either way I need to limit my movement for the next few months regardless of surgery or not; so I don't know whether I should just go ahead and get it done." She added: "I was told you could move around with a stress fracture but I've been in a lot of pain, thinking that perhaps it was normal. Turns out it's been worsening!"
