In an emotional post on social media, Greg said: "I am utterly heartbroken. We’ve had a really tough week as a family finding out Gus had cancer.

"He sadly passed away last night and I just feel numb. Between the tears and pain of missing him so much, I’m longing to see his silly face or feel him rest his head on my feet or lap.

"Gus has been such an important part of our lives. For me he’s been my training partner and best mate. Every steps session, every run, every bike ride and walk. He was always with me. I’d talk out my plans to him like he understood and be greeted by a happy paw or lick and was always happy.

"So very sorry for your loss of Gus. They are never with us for long enough," said a third.

While a fourth fan posted: "So sorry mate. Sending love from me and my family to you and yours."

Greg previously revealed Gus was refused a life-saving operation - and wanted a second opinion.

Opening up about the struggles his family have recently faced, Greg said: "We've having a s*** time as a family at the moment so I'm cooking through it.

"Thanks for all your well wishes."

Earlier this month Greg showed off his scar and swelling for the operation he had after slashing his stomach open.

Days before he sparked concern after 'vanishing' from social media after his stomach surgery.
