George Harrison's sister Louise Harrison, who helped The Beatles achieve success in America, has died aged 91.

Her death was confirmed on her Facebook page, with tributes from heartbroken family and friends pouring in.

Marty Scott, a member of Beatles tribute group Liverpool Legends, shared the sad news and said Louise died on Monday "painlessly and peacefully."

Louise had reportedly been receiving care at a hospice in Florida before her death.

Marty wrote: "It’s really hard for me to get words out at the moment, but Lou meant the world to me. Since the day I met her my life was changed forever.

He added: "She’s been my family now for over 20 years. It’s hard to explain our relationship but at times she was truly my sister, sometimes my grandmother, sometimes my child, and sometimes my best friend.

"We spent so much time together and travelled to so many places. She was a huge part of my life and did so many things for me and Liverpool Legends.

"She opened so many darn doors for us and never took no for an answer."

Marty finished his tribute by saying: "There are so many great memories and they will always keep me smiling every time I think of her. Louise had the biggest heart.

"She’d give the shirt off her back if you needed one. She made so many people happy in her very unique life. Her story really deserves to be told someday."

Marty said he was able to say goodbye to Louise a couple of weeks ago and added that her memory "will always live on with all of us".

Louise helped to promote The Beatles in the early 60s and wrote to radio and TV stations to help the band break into the American music scene.

She spent most of her life in the Midwest, having moved to Illinois with her first husband back in the 50s. Louise later moved to California.

Fans have been paying tribute to Louise on Twitter, with people offering their condolences to her family and friends.
