Cadbury is giving hard-up kids an Easter treat, with a donation of 70,000 chocs to foodbanks – along with cash to support their vital work.
With millions facing hunger over the spring break, the firm has teamed up with The Trussell Trust to deliver goodies to more than 200 outlets. Poverty charity The Childhood Trust says 2.8 million youngsters face missing meals this Easter, with one in five children living with food insecurity.
That is more than double what it was three years ago. Single-parent households are hardest hit, with half frequently going without for a whole day. A record 540,000 emergency food parcels were distributed across the UK from April to September last year, supporting more than 265,000 children.
One struggling 12-year-old told us: “I’m used to it now. I ask my parents if there’s any food, and they say maybe later or maybe tomorrow. I’m worried that one day we won’t have any food for a long period of time.”
Laurence Guinness, head of The Childhood Trust, said: “No child should be going hungry. This speaks to the failure of policy and Government to keep children safe, a statement the majority of people agree with. We call on all politicians to put reducing child poverty at the heart of their manifestos.”

Cadbury owner Mondelez said it wanted to help make Easter “a little more special” for those in need. They added: “We will also be making a donation to support their work addressing poverty, for a future where everyone can afford their own food.”
