Meghan Markle and Prince Harry confirm that they are visiting Nigeria in May as the Duchess of Sussex snubs a trip to the UK.

On April 28th, The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) shared their delight as they announced that the Sussexes are jetting off to visit Nigeria this spring. During their upcoming stay in the African country, they are expected to meet with Service members and host a variety of cultural activities.

This comes as Prince Harry has already announced that he will be attending the Invictus Games' 10th anniversary celebration at St. Paul's Cathedral in London, with no mention of Meghan joining him. And while the mother of two will likely opt out of joining her husband in the UK, she has confirmed she will be by his side during his upcoming trip to West Africa.

Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, The Minister of Defense in Nigeria, expressed his willingness to host Prince Harry's Invictus Games in the announcement expressed if his country was given the opportunity. This comes as the minister previously attended the international multi-sport event created for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women last year in Germany.

Brig Gen Tukur Vusau, Acting Director of Defence Information in Nigeria, in a statement shared: "The visit is to consolidate Nigeria's strong hold at the game and the possibility of hosting the event in later years."

Last year Nigeria, along with Colombia and Israel, were new arrivals at the Invictus Games where they competed against the 21 nations that participated the athletic games in 2023. During last year's event Düsseldorf, Germany, the couple bonded with the Nigerian team and they presented them with a plaque from the Chief of Defense and a loving new nickname for Meghan.

The Nigerian Team nicknamed The Duchess of Sussex the Amira Ngozi Lolo. In the African country, Amira represents the name of a warrior princess from a legend while Ngozi means "blessed" and Lolo means "royal wife." After growing closer to the team, Prince Harry gave the country's team a sweet shoutout during his opening speech.

In Prince Harry's introduction to the Invictus Games, he jokingly said: "Now, I'm not saying we play favorites in our home, but since my wife discovered she's of Nigerian descent, it's likely to get a little bit more competitive this year."
