A creepy abandoned house that was once covered in graffiti and overrun with vermin has had an amazing facelift.

The semi-detached property on Croftfoot Road in Glasgow had become an eyesore after it was boarded up and left to decay for nearly a decade. The property, which had been a ‘nightmare’ for local residents has now undergone a massive renovation at the hands of Connaire McGuinness, a paramedic turned-property developer.

Along with pals Barry Wilson and Iain McGill, Connaire worked to transform the property which had been left untouched after it was inherited nearly 10 years ago. It was back in March 2022 when the group found the property in a newspaper article, GlasgowLive reports. Neighbours were left tearing their hair out over fears that the derelict property would decrease the value of their homes.

Connaire, 29, and Barry were left "shocked" on their first inspection. He said: "You could see from outside that it was quite cluttered. Barry couldn’t see over most of the stuff that was there inside.

"We thought there would be floor space, we didn’t realise it would be wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling full of stuff. We were shocked. It’s one of the biggest projects we’ve taken on but was an opportunity to do something special. We had a rough idea of what we wanted it to look like. The end goal was to bring a liveable home to the market."

The floor plan was changed entirely with the property losing its downstairs bedroom to make way for an open kitchen and dining area. Double patio doors in the kitchen lead out to a large spacious garden, with plenty of potential for an extension or adding garden furniture.

A modernised living room, free from the clutter which once consumed it, makes the property great for family living. There is also a W.C located on the ground floor of the property.

The first floor leads to three bedrooms - one single and two double - and a family bathroom. The works took around eight months to be completed and are now on the market for offers over £245,000.

Connaire and the team decided to go for a profit share option on the property. This means that when it sells, they will recover the costs of the renovation and split the profit with the current owner.

He added: "It’s mostly families living in the area so we knew what the average buyer would look like. We did a bespoke design for them.

"They can make dinners and have a space for their family to sit. We added big patio doors so the kids can play while mum and dad are in the kitchen - and can see straight out into a large grassy area."

"The garden leaves an opportunity to do other things to it as well because of the space. The difference from when we first took it on then it being a construction site to when we finished was massive. It makes us feel proud to see the progress we’ve made.

"It’ll soon be someone’s family home and we won’t be able to pop down anymore. It’s going to be strange to see it go even though we are absolutely delighted to see how it’s turned out."

"Neighbours have been so supportive and have thanked us for doing it. They said it’s amazing for the street. This wouldn’t have been possible without Barry and Iain, they were a massive part of this entire process.

"Barry is a property developer and I knew him and Iain, who has a construction background, would be able to make this as amazing as it is." The home was decorated by So Staged before going on the market.
