Katie Price may have previously admitted she wants to go to prison in order to avoid endless court dates, but the former glamour model now thinks putting her behind bars wouldn't be fair on British taxpayers.

Earlier this month, Tory MP James Wild said that repeat driving offenders like Katie "should be jailed" after she avoided prison again, as a judge found Katie guilty in her absence for driving without insurance or a valid driver's licence. The mum-of-five, 45, who has been banned from driving six times in the last 10 years, received another eight points on her licence on 12th March.

In the past, Katie has been penalised for offences including speeding, using her phone while driving, and drink-driving. These go as far back as 2003. Speaking last year, Katie pleaded with the authorities to send her to prison because she is "fed up" of going to court more times than she has had "hot dinners".

However, it looks like Katie has changed her mind over recent months. Discussing MP James Wild's recent comments, Katie said on her podcast: "There’s an MP who wants me off the road. I’m not even driving at the minute. And about all this driving stuff. I don’t go on about it here but there’s so much discrimination around that as well."

Chatting with her sister Sophie Price on The Katie Price Show, Katie continued: "Every day people go into bankruptcies. I do pay it off, and I am paying it off. I don’t need to hear some arsehole MP is trying to get me in prison. That’s good for taxpayers, innit? What would they gain with me in prison? It would cost them more money to put me in prison than out. I have asked to go to prison but they won’t do it, so what do they want to do?"

Katie's most serious driving offence happened in September 2021, when she flipped her BMW near her home in Sussex while drunk and without a driver's license or insurance. Despite these severe offences, and a judge remarking that she "could have killed somebody", she managed to avoid jail. She was instead given a 16-week suspended sentence and ordered to do 100 hours of community service.

Reflecting on these events, James Wild, the MP for North-West Norfolk close to where Katie was caught driving illegally, suggested that it's time for stricter sentencing for those with long lists of driving offences. He proposed that the system should be changed to allow for prison sentences when a certain number of convictions are accumulated.

He told MailOnline earlier this month: "The public would rightly expect repeat driving offenders to get maximum sentences for reckless behaviour. Unlimited fines can be imposed for driving without insurance and, in some cases, the vehicle being seized. The penalty in this case fails to recognise how serious driving offences are. Ultimately, we need to look at custodial sentences for serial offenders."

Katie told Michelle Visage in August how she was "fed up" with being threatened with prison and would rather just be jailed. "I’m so threatened with court letters and that all the time," she said on the Drag Race star's podcast. "I’ve been to court more times than I’ve had hot dinners lately. And I am not scared anymore."

She continued: "I have said, ‘Can’t you put me into prison, just to cover it all’. Be done with it. I’m fed up with the reminders. I genuinely don’t care if I go to prison. Because it’s done then. And I love all the prison stuff and I can experience what it’s like... I could do a story when I come out and it’s a win-win situation isn’t it? It wouldn’t affect my job, it wouldn’t affect nothing. I wouldn’t be in there long. What I mean is, if they’re going to keep threatening me, just do it. Just put me in there then, stop threatening and just do it."
