Former footballer Ashley Cain has offered to help Francis Ngannou come to terms with the death of his son, after going through a similar experience himself.

It was confirmed on Monday that Ngannou's 15-month-old son had died, leading the fighter to request help to deal with the grief. In a heartbreaking tribute on social media, the former UFC heavyweight champion wrote: "Too soon to leave but yet he's gone. My little boy, my mate, my partner Kobe was full of life and joy. Now, he's laying without life.

"I shouted his name over and over but he's not responding. I was my best self next to him and now I have no clue of who I am. Life is so unfair to hit us where it hurts the most. How do you deal with such a thing? How can you live with it? Please help me if you have an idea because I really don't know what to do and how to deal with this."

Cain tragically lost his eight-month-old daughter Azaylia back in 2021, after she was diagnosed with leukaemia eight weeks after being born. Cain and his former partner Safiyya Vorajee have been dealing with grief ever since, but after Ngannou's cry for help he's offered to speak to him.

"I'm so deeply sorry to hear this and I am sending my love, strength and heartfelt condolences to yourself and your family," Cain wrote in reply to Ngannou's post on Instagram. "If you ever, ever need to speak to anyone then I am always here.

"The pain left behind after the loss of a child is something that will never heal and the circle of grief will never get smaller, but we can grow strength around it and honour them in every step of the way. Here for you brother anytime and may your little boy rest in eternal paradise, watching over you always."

The cause of death for Ngannou's son is still unknown, with those close to the family respecting their privacy at such a traumatic time. Cain still struggles to deal with the loss of his daughter, but wants to share his grieving process with Ngannou.

Cain has since welcomed another child with a different woman, as his son Aliyas Cain was born on January 16, 2024. But although Cain is thrilled to raise a child after having a young life taken away from him, it still doesn't make up for the difficulties he faces every day.

The former footballer shared a post on Easter Sunday, his first with new son Aliyas. But Cain admitted that all special occasions remind him of what's missing, something Ngannou will have to navigate from this moment on. "Today is Easter and I'll be completely honest, I don't know how to spend these kinds of occasions anymore," Cain wrote on social media.

"Day to day life, you suck it up and smile, but these times of the year prove extremely difficult. This day should be an incredibly happy day with my son, but since last night I haven't been able to stop thinking about the last Easter I spent with my daughter."
