The Miami Dolphins have made an offer to Odell Beckham Jr, which could mean that the receiver will team up with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the AFC East franchise's attack.

Beckham Jr is currently a free agent after signing a one-year deal worth $15 million (£12m) with the Baltimore Ravens, helping the team reach the AFC Championship in his return to action. The 31-year-old had missed the entire 2022 season having torn his ACL in Super Bowl LVI, where he caught a touchdown in the Los Angeles Rams victory.

Last season, Beckham Jr played in 14 games for the Ravens and averaged a career-high 16.1 yards per reception. However, he only managed 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns in a somewhat disappointing 2023 for the former superstar.

While Beckham Jr only played more than 60 per cent of the offensive snaps in one game for the Ravens, he continues to command a high price for his services, as the former LSU wideout enters the twilight of his career. Teams have so far been unwilling to meet his demands given his injury history and age, but the Dolphins have made the first move amid links with the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the end, Miami is hoping to improve its third receiver spot behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Both Hill and Waddle have managed to get over 1,000 yards receiving for the past two seasons, but tight end Durham Smythe was the only other player who got more than 300 yards with 366.

Cedrick Wilson Jr, who was Miami's No. 3 wideout in 2023, has signed with the New Orleans Saints as a free agent. This means the team is now looking for a receiver to join the Hill-Waddle duo, and Beckham Jr might be just the right fit.

Beckham Jr has been a 1,000-yard receiver five times in his nine seasons but has spent the recent years dealing with a number of serious injuries. His time away from the field has left him a bit rusty, which could explain his disappointing 2023 season.

It's not clear how much the Dolphins have offered to Beckham Jr, but the salary cap has been a problem for the team this offseason. There's been a bit of an exodus as a result, with players like Christian Wilkins, Andrew Van Ginkel, and Robert Hunt leaving as free agents because Miami was $38.5 million (£30m) over the cap.

If a deal can be agreed - and reportedly there is 'strong' mutual interest - the seasoned Beckham Jr would be a great addition to the Dolphins' receiving team. The Dolphins have just re-signed River Cracraft this week and also have Braxton Berrios and Erik Ezukanma returning from their 2023 wide receiver group.
