Anne Hathaway opened up about suffering a miscarriage while portraying a pregnant woman in 2015.

The talented actress, now 41, revealed during a recent interview that she publicly announced her second pregnancy on Instagram on July 24, 2019. She not only shared that she was expecting her second child with her husband Adam Shulman, but also sent words of consolation and support to those struggling with infertility problems.

"It's not for a movie....#2," jested Anne, before adding seriously, "All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love."

In an intimate chat with Vanity Fair, the mother of Jonathan (aged eight) and Jack (aged four), reflected on her decision to share such a personal post and its meaning at the time. "Given the pain I felt while trying to get pregnant, it would've felt disingenuous to post something all the way happy when I know the story is much more nuanced than that for everyone," expressed Anne.

Back in 2015, Anne performed as a top-flight pilot who becomes pregnant unexpectedly in the six-week one-woman off-Broadway show, Grounded. Sadly, it was during this performance period that she experienced a miscarriage.

"The first time it didn't work out for me. I was doing a play and I had to give birth onstage every night," shared the star of Les Mis. "It was too much to keep it in when I was onstage pretending everything was fine."

Anne revealed that she told her friends about her miscarriage and was shocked to find out that many of them had similar experiences. She also discovered a study showing that around 50 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage.

"I thought, Where is this information? Why are we feeling so unnecessarily isolated? That's where we take on damage. So I decided that I was going to talk about it. The thing that broke my heart, blew my mind, and gave me hope was that for three years after, almost daily, a woman came up to me in tears and I would just hold her, because she was carrying this [pain] around and suddenly it wasn't all hers anymore," she said.

It was more about what I wasn't going to do. I wasn't going to feel ashamed of something that seemed to me statistically to actually be quite normal."
