A heartbroken family of a teen who died in an e-bike crash told how he "loved going out and about with his mates," in a tribute.

Marcus Beck, 17, was killed in the incident on the A941 near Elgin, in Scotland, at around 8pm on Monday. Emergency services raced to the scene following reports of the collision involving a Sur-ron e-bike, a blue Vauxhall Mokka, a red Renault Clio, a black Vauxhall Corsa and a white VW Golf.

Medics attended but both Marcus and his 16-year-old friend - named locally as Gregor Booth - were pronounced dead at the scene. Marcus' family have now released a statement through Police Scotland saying how much he will be missed.

They said: “Marcus was a young man who loved going out and about with his mates. He will be missed so very much by all of his family and his friends. We cannot begin to explain what a shock this has been for everyone and we would like time to be able to come to terms with what has happened.”

Marcus and Gregor were passengers on the e-bike. Their 14-year-old friend, who was driving the bike, was taken to nearby Dr Gray’s Hospital for treatment to serious injuries. Medics describe his condition as stable.

Following the devastating news tributes also flooded in on social media, reported the Daily Record. Lisa J Gray said: "Rest easy boys, there are just no words. Lots of broken hearts have been left behind, thinking of your families and friends at this sad heartbreaking time."

Mollie Mcwilliam said: "Forever 16 and 17. Rest easy boys." Jenny Anderson added: "Fly high Gregor and Marcus." The driver of the Mokka, a 54-year-old man, was also taken to hospital for serious injuries. His condition is described as critical but stable.

No one else was injured. The road was closed for crash investigation work to be carried out and officers are appealing for information. Sergeant Iain Nicholson said: “Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all involved. This is an incident that has also affected the wider community at what is a very upsetting and difficult time for all.

“Our investigation into the crash is ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who has not already spoken to officers and who could help with our enquiries to come forward. If you information, such as dash-cam, or saw anything at the time of the crash that could assist officers then please get in touch.” Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3247 of Monday, March 25, 2024.
