Capital FM has been hit with more chaos as another big name has quit a day after Roman Kemp presented his last ever Breakfast show.

Capital XTRA presenter Will Njobvu - who is the first openly gay host to work on the station - has announced that he is quitting his Saturday breakfast show to focus on TV and digital projects.

It comes a day after Roman marked his final day on the Breakfast show after ten successful years in the realm. Throughout those past ten years, Roman has interviewed huge stars including Harry Styles, Kylie Minogue, Simpson's star Nancy Cartwright, Kris Jenner, Paul Rudd, and many more.

Will confirmed the news on social media this week and looked back at the incredible moment he came out as gay live on air in 2022. Will also said that his Capital FM gig had “kept his spirits high” during lockdown.

Announcing his departure, Will wrote in full: "As they say in showbiz, it’s a WRAP! After 4 and a half amazing years - I’ve taken the tough decision to leave from my Saturday morning show on Capital XTRA to focus on new opportunities elsewhere in broadcast & digital media. My love for radio started 12 years ago in 2012 when I joined my student radio station in Leicester, then went on to hospital radio in Harrow and a local FM station in Watford - so ending up on Capital XTRA as my first job in commercial radio has been a blast & a real blessing.

"Alongside my Saturday morning show I’ve hosted Sunday afternoons, covered the Breakfast show and my earlier listeners will remember when I use to bring you guys the Love Island interviews and gossip… even a reunion show! This job kept my spirits high during lockdown, through Black Lives Matter - I got so comfortable with my listeners that I decided to open up about my sexuality for the first time ever on air (even though we knew the closet I was in was see through & made of glass ) but it was an amazing moment! While my journey at XTRA is done, the Will Njobvu journey has only just begun. You can tune into my final show this Saturday from 9am to 1pm - many many thanks."

Will shot to stardom after becoming popular on Capital because of his show-stopping interviews with Love Island contestants. He went on to start his own independent podcast, Reality, and that now draws in millions of TikTokers every month.

Will’s big announcement comes the same month he confirmed his podcast would be relaunching with audio giant Acast and he has also teased upcoming projects recently. Elsewhere, the radio star has appeared on BBC Two’s panel show The Apprentice You’re Fired and clearly has a very promising future in broadcasting.

Meanwhile, Roman choked up while delivering a heartfelt thank you to his millions of listeners on Thursday. He became emotional as he gushed: "I know that there is a lot of people listening right now, and I wanted to take the time to say thank you. I was more nervous about saying I was leaving than actually leaving this show. This show is run by so many people behind the scenes who try so hard to give you that bit of energy in the morning and to try and get you up and feeling good, but I think what I want to get across is just how much fun I've had on this station in the past ten years.

"It has changed my life in so many ways and I have grown up in this place, and that's because of all of you listening. You have been able to be there for me through things that I never imagined would even happen. I've had moments on this show where my whole life outside of work is completely down the pan. There were times where I didn't want to be here anymore. There have been moments where my life outside of this room has been the worst thing ever.

"I know a great life, but in my head that's how it felt. I knew that all I had in my life were these four hours in my day where I could come to work and in those four hours I knew that I was going to laugh and have fun and be surrounded by people that get me and those four hours and those people that I'm talking about include you - the listeners. You have no idea how much you have helped me."

Roman, son of eighties pop stars Martin and Shirlie Kemp, shocked the world of radio when he announced he was stepping down from the demanding early morning slot. Speaking with co-hosts Sian Welby and Chris Stark last month, Roman said at the time: "I’ve loved every single moment of my time at Capital. The last 10 years have been amazing and hosting the legendary Capital Breakfast is the best job ever. But after almost seven years of early alarms, I’m looking forward to some lie-ins and it’s time to hand over the baton!"
