Katie Price has defended taking Gareth Gates’ virginity when she was six months pregnant with eldest son Harvey.
The former glamour model opened up about their infamous romp on the Anything Goes with James English podcast. Speaking candidly about her life, the 45-year-old was asked: “What about the thing with Gareth Gates?” To which she replied: “Yeah I took his virginity when I was six months pregnant.”
As host James shook his head, Katie – who was better known as Jordan in those days - hit back: “Well you’re asking me! What you looking at? Just because I was pregnant don’t say I can’t have a boyfriend.”
At the time Gareth, who was then 17, had just appeared on Pop Idol, where he came runner up in 2002 in the series that was won by Will Young. He initially denied Katie’s claims in a bid to protect his reputation, but later came clean as he didn’t want to lie to his fans any more.
In an interview with OK! magazine in 2016, Gareth confessed: “It wasn’t too long after that I decided to take a break from the industry. It wasn’t the reason I wanted to be a pop star. There are stars out there for the wrong reason. I want to be recognised for my talent.”
Pregnant Stacey Solomon brands herself an 'old fogy' over NYE plans with JoeDiscussing what happened on The Big Reunion show, he went on to say: “I denied the whole Jordan thing because I was 17. I didn’t want my family to find out about my sex life. if I hadn’t have lied it wouldn’t have been a big deal. My friends, family and fans wouldn’t have felt as let down, I guess.
“For me, I was very young. I had to say I don’t want to have a long-term relationship at this age, so she sold the story and I said it was all lies. The only thing I thought in my head to do was to say it never happened. I felt I had to because I didn’t want my family to know about my sex life. I didn’t tell anyone, my friends or family, so they all backed me.”
Though things ended badly between them, it was reported that Katie reached out to Gareth, now 39, recently in 2018 when his relationship with former Coronation Street star Faye Brookes came to an end.
“Katie’s always had a crush on Gareth and can’t quite get him out of her system. She got back in touch to see if her needed a shoulder to cry on. It was actually quite a sweet message. But then she appeared to have had one drink too many and started calling him at 4am, clearly after some flirty banter. Gareth was a bit taken aback and doesn’t want to engage. From his perspective, he has been there, done that... and never again,” a source told The Sun.
These days, mum-of-five Katie is in a new relationship with Married At First Sight UK star JJ Slater. Speaking about their newfound romance, she said she is doing things properly this time and hasn’t jumped into it – despite what people might think.
She said: “To people on the outside, it does look like I’ve jumped into a relationship quickly. But what people don’t realise is that we’ve been in contact for three months. I’ve done it properly and it’s different to any other relationship I’ve done. And it didn’t even start off like that. It literally grew from friendship to fancying each other to now this.”
