Eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed that guests on ITV's This Morning have been sporting colourful garments this morning, with many opting for pink shades - but why?

Vanessa Feltz looked divine in a retro print collared dress boasting various shades of pink as she spoke about the news of the day, and Gogglebox's Reverand Kate Bottley glowed in a high-necked fuchsia number while explaining the importance of Easter. But fans were left puzzled as to why pink is in vogue this Good Friday.

And it turns out they've likely chosen these rosy hues because spring has well and truly sprung, and pink has a sweet Easter meaning.

According to Good Housekeeping, the shade pink means 'joy' in colour theory, and therefore, it brings happiness to both the wearer and the people around them.

The Christian church deems rose as the colour of Laetare Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Lent and 21 days before Easter. Running with the joyful theme, laetare means "to rejoce" and Laetare Sunday is meant to remind us of the upcoming celebration of Easter.

Outside its religious connotations, if you send someone a pink rose, it's said to be a happy message, "symbolising joy, happiness, grace, and gentleness" according to Fifty Flowers.

Other shades that have meaning are white, which symbolises purity, black, which shows mourning on Good Friday, violet, which shows penance, yellow, which means joy, victory, and triumph, red, which is worn on Palm Sunday as a symbol of the blood of Christ, and green, which is a symbol for eternal life.

It seems like the brighter colours being worn by the women on This Morning means that spring is here, and things are blooming once more after the winter period.

Speaking about Easter, Reverand Kate Bottley said that Easter is "Less pressure and more chocolate than Christmas", and she also shared that she chooses to make New Year's resolutions around lent time because many of them have been broken by now, meaning "the feast tastes so much better after the fast".
