Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood was continually mocked by Sevilla's social media account during their 1-0 victory over Getafe.

A goal from Sevilla captain Sergio Ramos with just five minutes on the clock was enough to give the visitors all three points against Greenwood's loan club. The United forward, who's enjoying a productive spell in Spain, played the full 90 minutes but failed to add to either his six goals or five assists in La Liga.

Greenwood, 22, was instead brutally trolled by Sevilla on social media platform X, with multiple posts mocking him subsequently garnering thousands of likes. In the 59th minute, the Europa League holders' account posted: "Greenwood dribbles through but is stopped in his tracks by Kike. Good," with a thumbs-up emoji.

A few minutes later, another post read: "This time it's [Marcos] Acuna who shuts off Greenwood and wins back possession. Good." After full-time on Saturday, Sevilla joked that when Ramos - who turned 38 on Saturday - emptied his back pocket after the game he took out his keys, a birthday card, his iPhone and Greenwood.

The 22-year-old did manage to take four shots in the ill-tempered contest, but only once did he manage to test Sevilla goalkeeper Orjan Nyland. The match was paused in the 68th minute after Acuna and Sevilla's coaching staff were allegedly the target of "racist and xenophobic insults" from home fans.

Getafe manager Jose Bordalas said during his post-match press conference: "I agree that the protocol was activated. If the referee and in this case Acuna heard it (abuse), it was good that they stopped the match."

Sevilla boss Quique Sanchez Flores also claimed that he was called a "gypsy" by Getafe supporters, saying: "I am proud of every pore in my veins that can breathe 'gypsy'. It is one thing to be a gypsy or partly, and another to use it as a racist insult - I find it abhorrent."

Saturday's result leaves Getafe in 11th place with 38 points after 30 games. Sevilla, meanwhile, are seven points behind and still just four places above the relegation zone after suffering a nightmare start to the season. Greenwood has eight more opportunities to increase his goalscoring tally before returning to United either permanently or ahead of another departure.

Last September, the forward was loaned to Getafe after having charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm - all of which he denied - dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023.
