Not only that, but they also had to deal with animals taking over their lawn.

"Here in Canada, we don’t get the good stuff for our lawns, so that has been a challenge on its own.
"But it’s remained relatively similar ever since I started putting some effort in. Constantly learning!"
An after photo revealed the dramatic transformation of their lawn, which was completely rid of weeds.
"From weeds to decent? Never had a lawn before. [It's a] big learning curve, but I love it," they said.
The novice-turned-expert revealed the plan that made a huge difference.
In the spring, they begin with lawn aeration, followed up with "raking up dead spots and removing things from the ground that will prevent seeds from making contact with the earth below."
Once the soil is prepped, topsoil is put down to level out the bare spots, and overseeding is done using a handheld spreader.
A starter fertilizer helps their new seeds grow.
"Water typically twice a day until I start seeing some good growth, then reduce the watering. Usually 2-3 weeks for me," they added.

The Redditor revealed that they manually plucked weeds as they popped up, which was common at first but then dwindled.
To keep weeds at bay throughout the summer, they use herbicides.
In the fall, they repeated the topsoil, seeding, and starter fertilizer steps over again.
"Now granted, I didn’t start with a regimen like this!" they said.
The Redditor explained that they began by hand-picking weeds before upgrading to the strategy.
"This can be expensive; at the start, it was largely manual effort picking weeds, overseeding, watering, and frequent mowing that got it in a healthy state," they said.
