TODAY marks the start of National Volunteers Week, where everyone is encouraged to donate time to their local community.

To celebrate, here are some ways to give back while also getting some little rewards in the process.

SHARING IS CARING: Become a volunteer with the Olio waste-sharing app and help distribute food from local businesses in your area.

Not only are you helping stop food waste, but you get to keep ten per cent of the food you pick up as a reward.

Download the Olio app or head to volunteers.olioex.com for more information.

CUPBOARD RAIDER: Are you a clothes hoarder?

Clear out your wardrobe and donate a bag at your local Oxfam shop.

As long as your donations include at least one M&S item, you can receive a £5 voucher to use in M&S shops when spending a minimum of £35 on clothing, homeware or beauty.

SCAN ‘N’ SAVE: You can now recycle your empty medicine blister packs at Boots stores.

Register at boots.scan2recycle.com and log your empties.

Once 15 items have been approved, head into one of its branches and scan into a Scan2Recycle bin.

After it is deposited you will receive a reward of 150 Advantage points (worth £1.50) when you next spend £10 at Boots.

STYLE SAVER: Fashion lovers should consider volunteering at local charity shops.

Check out roles at The British Heart Foundation (bhf.org.uk) and you could be arranging the fashion displays before you know it.

Plus, you get to see the donations before they hit the shop floor and you might spot a bargain.

TOP TIP: Register for The Big Help Out, which runs from June 7 to 9 as part of National Volunteers Week.

Head to thebighelpout.org.uk and download the app to check out the volunteering opportunities in your area.

It’s a great chance to meet new people and make an impact in your community.
