While they were proud of their hard work, people criticized their interior design eye and their yard's "unusual" shape.

They explained that they settled on the project after negotiating with their wife.
"I wanted a deck, and my wife wanted a slab, so we compromised and chose the hardest of the three: a paver patio," they said.
Four bedroom home with its own TRAIN TRACK on sale… but there’s a catchThe 400-square-foot endeavor took them a month and a half.
"Most of [the time] was spent trying to add dirt and level/grade the base," they explained.
"I’m glad we did it ourselves, but I for sure will never be doing it again. It’s not a professional grade, but it looks good to us!"
Progress photos revealed the full extent of the couple's labor, including dirt leveling, measuring, and finishing tile touches.
Critics felt that while the DIY project turned out beautiful, the shape of the patio was a little questionable.
"It looks good, but I'll admit I don't understand the shape," said one commenter.
The homeowner explained that they went with an unconventional interior design decision to go against the grain.
"I like how the shape isn't some boring square or rectangle and is so unique," they said.
"We wanted to do something different than just a big square without having to cut anything. It does look a little funny in pictures."
They explained that they sectioned off parts of the patio for a fire pit, chairs, and an area to bathe their dogs.

While the unique layout may be a turn-off for some, they explained that it only mattered that it worked for them.
"[The] resale value might take a bit of a hit, but if it's a long-term home, [I'd] be okay with it," they said.
Some helpful viewers offered ways to signal that the patio shape was done on purpose.
"I'd put some plants/gardens/shrubs in those cutout areas to help make it look more intentional," said one commenter.
"Otherwise, you'll likely wish you had just made it a big rectangle.
"You can just wash the dogs on a corner — you don't need a separate piece jutting out."
