Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has transformed himself to take on a new role as he stars in movie biopic The Smashing Machine.

The film will hit cinemas next year, with Johnson taking on the role of martial artist and former UFC fighter Mark Kerr. The Smashing Machine is thought to focus on his history of substance abuse and his relationship with his then-girlfriend, Dawn Staples, played by Emily Blunt. Johnson is just one part of the star cast, which includes Emily Blunt as his partner, as well as Lyndsey Gavin and Oleksandr Usyk amongst others.

Pictures of Dwayne in the new role have been shared, with fans struggling to recognise him. In the pictures Dwayne is seen wearing a yellow sweatshirt, with his usual shaved hairstyle swapped for short brunette curly locks which made him look completely different.

Writing on twitter/X, one fan wrote: "Dwayne looks totally different." Another shared: "That’s The Rock? Holy s**t looks unrecognizable". A third added: "I actually had to zoom in to make sure that was him because wow… literally unrecognizable!" "Didn't even recognize him!" said a fourth. Another posted: "He looks so different."

Other pictures from the movie have been released as promotional shots, with Emily Blunt appearing to play Kerr's then partner Dawn Staples. In one picture, Dwayne is sat in the corner of a boxing ring completely shirtless and it in a pair of red shorts. Outside of the ring to his side stood Emily, who wore a low-cut white tank top as she looked up at her partner.

The film is expected to show Kerr's rise to fame, as well as his fall from grace due to an opioid addiction. A HBO documentary about Mark's life was released in 2002, but this is the movie about his life which also blends fiction alongside the true story.

Earlier this year, Johnson surprised fans with an unexpected career move as he moved away from movies, professional wrestling and even tequila to step into the skincare industry. In March, launched his own range of men's beauty products called Papatui with the collection already released on his website, Papatui.com, and being stocked in Target stores across the USA.

Dwayne took to Instagram to launch the line as he discussed the stigma surrounding skincare for men. He captioned the post: "Welcome to the world of my @papatui_ men’s care. As you guys know, I’m an advocate for wellness, grooming and men taking better care of ourselves. And while we may not always talk about it, us guys all want to look better and feel better too."
