WHEELER Dealers star Marc Priestley has opened up on the new skills he learned while filming the latest series of the hit motoring show.

The expert mechanic, who once worked as part of the pit crew for Formula 1 team McLaren but now hosts the TV programme alongside Mike Brewer, admits he picked up new hacks from a “bush mechanic” while in Australia.

In an interview with the Express, Marc revealed he worked closely with a mechanic in the middle of the Australian outback and learned of the different ways they worked on motors - sometimes without even using the necessary tools.

He said: “That’s been one of the highlights of this series for both of us.

“We’ve travelled the world to see people who are so passionate about cars.

“They’ve got their own expertise and we do things quite often in a different way.

“Somebody who works on cars in the middle of the outback in Australia doesn’t have the luxury of all the tools and equipment that we kind of maybe take for granted here in the UK.

"I was able to learn some amazing skills from a bush mechanic in Australia who we worked with for a couple of weeks down there

“And equally he was able to take some things that I was able to share with him.”

Wheeler Dealers’ newest series is currently being aired on Discovery and follows the pair’s trip across the globe in locations in Europe, North America and Down Under on the hunt for old motors to restore.

Marc added: “Mike’s been out to meet all sorts of people in these territories too.

“We've all shared experiences and shared knowledge and expertise.”

Two recent episodes feature their trip through Australia, and includes a brilliant scene with Mike and Marc racing a Ford XR8 against a Holden GTS at the iconic Bathurst Mount Panorama circuit.

The iconic circuit, with its mixture of speed and changes in elevation, is known to petrolheads all over the world for the Bathurst 1000 endurance race.

Mike previously teased the first Australian-based episode in a message to fans.

He said: "We went and got the ultimate '90s Australian muscle car, Bruce as we call it.

"We take Bruce to the gym...we made it go faster."

Meanwhile, Marc previously spoke to Sun Motors about the "golden rule" for drivers looking to buy a classic motor and make a profit.

He told us: "I always feel it's a bit more than just buying a car that you think will make a profit.

"You have to have some sort of passion for that car.

"The journey of restoring a classic car is a proper rollercoaster.

"If you're just doing it for nothing more than the profit, you probably won't get to the end of that journey."

You can watch Wheeler Dealers every week on Discovery Plus, with new episodes every Monday at 10pm.
