NOT many people would have put their house on Robert MacIntyre winning the Canadian Open.

The 27-year-old Scot was given a 1.2 per cent chance of success at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club prior to the start of the tournament.

But MacIntyre shocked the likes of Rory McIlory to win by one stroke and finish on 16 under par.

And his first ever PGA Tour victory came with his dad Dougie as his "emergency" caddie.

MacIntyre's win saw him pocket a staggering £1.3million.

And the world No76 plans to thank his father by paying off his mortgage.

MacIntyre was asked if his dad is in line to receive 10 per cent of his winnings and he replied: "He's going to get a nice paycheck out of it.

"I think I've got to get rid of some money just now for tax reasons.

"But he'll do nicely out of it. He deserves it.

"My mum and dad will be mortgage-free now, and life's looking a little bit better on that side of things.

"But he just wants me to do well because I'm his son, and there's no angles to it, there's nothing."

MacIntyre and his dad both wiped away tears in an emotional interview after sealing the win.

Dougie, who works as head greenkeeper at Glencruitten Golf Club, said: "I'm a grass cutter not a caddie. Unbelievable."

MacIntyre added: "I'm speechless. This is just everything, for me and my family, for my girlfriend, my team. I can't believe it.

"I'm crying with joy and laughing because I didn't think it was possible."

And a pep talk by his dad proved vital in his win, with MacIntyre revealing: "He was having a wee go at me when I was walking from the tenth tee down to the fairway.

"Look, he was a sporting guy, he knows how to win, knows how to lose, he’s been through it all.

"He could see my head going a little bit and he’s like: ‘What have you been working on for the last eight weeks, 10 weeks?’ when I realised what was the problem."
