This is according to Jane Hazlegrove, 55, who plays the mum-of-three on the long-running ITV soap.

Kit (Jacob Roberts) is a police officer, working in the same department as Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) and he's so far appeared nothing but frosty towards his estranged mum.
When she was brought into the police station, she was rebuked by her biological child in the interview.

"Bernie is carrying huge guilt over Kit. She’s managed to bury this guilt for years but deep down, she’s never stopped thinking about him and his well being," Jane explained.
However, as much as she wants to reconnect and rebuild the relationship with her son, she also knows he resents her.
He is also out for some sort of revenge, just as her son Paul (Peter Ash) is dying from MND (Motor neurone disease).
"I believe Bernie would love to begin building a relationship with Kit and try to fix all of her wrongs," she remarked.
"Unfortunately Bernie has to accept that he’s furious with her, and with good reason, so she must realise that a reconciliation might not be what he wants.
"She has always imagined what he would be like but I think she perhaps realises that he’s not as decent as she had hoped he would be so she also now needs to face the reality of what and who he is rather than the imagined son she’s always kept in her head and heart for all of these years."
Unfortunately, Paul's illness is progressing fast and he is fading away before her eyes, so the actress admitted that Bernie now faces a choice, one which could impact her for the rest of her life.
"Bernie definitely realises that this is now a possibility which isn’t ideal given the horrible circumstances with Paul’s illness and the timing is of course not great," she explained.
Adding: "Bernie knows she’s got to play the hand she’s now been dealt with the best she can and try to make amends.
