Patrick Mahomes has revealed his strategy to surpass NFL icon Tom Brady as the greatest of all time - underlining the longevity of Brady's success.
Despite Brady's retirement with seven Super Bowls - the most in NFL history - Mahomes is confident he can dethrone him after a stellar star to his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Brady's success was bookended by victories at the start and end of his career, winning three Super Bowls in his first five seasons. It took Mahomes two additional years to secure his third ring.
However, Brady then experienced a nine-season drought before clinching his fourth title, followed by three more in his final eight seasons. At just 28, Mahomes believes he has plenty of time to catch up and has shared his ambitions for the rest of his career.
"I think I just have to do what I did these first seven years, again, two more times," Mahomes stated on the ImPaulsive podcast. He also acknowledged that even if he experiences a similar dry spell to Brady, there's no cause for alarm.

"I mean Tom (Brady), if you ever look at his career from 40 to 45, those years are in the Hall of Fame, just those years," Mahomes noted. "It's going to take consistency, longevity, but all I can do at the end of the day is try and win.
"Everybody is trying to be the greatest they can possibly be so, it puts a high standard for me to chase but I love it."
Mahomes has no doubts about Brady's status, and even looked up to the former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback when making adjustments to his own play style.
"Yeah, for sure," Mahomes said when being asked if Brady is the GOAT. "Dude won seven Super Bowls, played in 10, has like every passing statistic record. It's hard not to be considered the GOAT."
"We all watched it growing up, he was winning Super Bowls every single year. I looked at Tom and his pocket movement, because even though he's not the fastest guy he moves around the pocket and gets himself in a place to throw."
Brady wasn't the only influence, as Mahomes added: "I watched Aaron (Rodgers) a lot and I watched Matthew Stafford a lot growing up."
But Mahomes has established his own identity, producing multiple highlight-reel plays that has seen the Chiefs dominate the NFL since he was drafted in 2017.
Mahomes only has one Super Bowl loss on his record, and it was when he faced Brady's Buccaneers back in 2020. The Chiefs were humbled in Super Bowl LV as the Bucs won 31-9, but Mahomes has grown since that defeat and now Kansas City is on the verge of completing the 3-peat, something that's never been done in the Super Bowl era.
