Amazon announced on Tuesday that it is making a live-action series based on Sega’s popular Like a Dragon games, formerly known in the West as Yakuza.

Titled Like a Dragon: Yakuza, the upcoming show will premiere on October 25 on Amazon Prime Video.

The live-action series will have an original story set in the same time period as the first Yakuza game, which was released in 2005.

The protagonist of most Yakuza games, Kazuma Kiryu, will also be the main character of the Amazon adaptation,

The story will follow his life in 1995 and 2005, before and after he goes to prison in the games.

Just like the games, the series will take place in the fictional Tokyo district of Kamurochō, Kiryu’s home town.

The upcoming Prime Video show is directed by critically acclaimed Japanese director Masaharu Take.

Ryoma Takeuchi, best known for his role in the superhero series Kamen Rider Drive, will play the leading role of Kiryu in Like a Dragon: Yakuza.

The show will run for six episodes, released in two batches of three, on October 25 and November 1, 2024.
