Joey Essex has been a household name for years after rising to fame in the early seasons of The Only Way Is Essex.
It seems like no matter what programme you're tuning into, Joey has already taken part in it. From comedy panel shows like 8 Out Of 10 Cats to Dancing On Ice, the 33-year-old TV personality has done it all. On Monday night, he shocked Love Island fans when he showed up at the villa as a bombshell.
He's the first celebrity to make an appearance on the ITV2 programme, but many weren't impressed with him being on the show as they claimed the star wasn't there to find love. When he walked into the villa, Joey rocked an off-white linen shirt, brown chinos and a brand-new buzzcut.
The reality icon looked worlds away from what he became known for during his appearance on Towie between 2011 and 2013. Joey was only 20 when he first showed up on the Essex-based show, looking baby-faced with a quiff hairstyle and a completely different style.
When he first rose to fame, he had a smaller frame and sported simple t-shirts and jeans when filming for the reality programme. As the years went by, he became known for his signature slicked hair and always shared snaps on social media wearing either tracksuits or jeans.
Amy Childs prepared to get cruelly mum-shamed after big decision about her twinsIn recent years, Joey bulked up and switched up his style according to recent trends. In January this year, Joey debuted his new buzzcut on Instagram. Fans said at the time: "Wow the hair changes your whole face looks great." One impressed follower commented: "Joey the short hair suits u loads!!" Another said: "This is the best he’s ever looked."
Those who weren't following him on Instagram were lost for words when he walked into the villa on Monday. Writing on Twitter, one user said: "Wait Joey Essex? I didn't even recognise him. Wow he looks really different now," while another posted: "OMG I didn't even recognise Joey without his hair."
Some even thought his new look made him resemble Prison Break icon Wentworth Miller - who played the fan-favourite Michael Scofield in the US drama series. "Someone said is that Joey Essex or Michael Scofield and I can’t stop laughing," a viewer said as they shared a gif of the hunky character.
"Joey Essex coming like Michael Scofield," another pointed out while one user posted: "Joey Essex is giving Michael Scofield vibes and I’m here for it."
Ahead of his appearance on the show, Joey told The Sun: "I feel like Joey Bond, 'the name's Essex, Joey Essex'. It felt like a military operation, not even the journey itself but the process of even getting through the application process and to this point. I'm extremely single right now, so I'm praying that I'm going to walk out of the villa hand in hand with the love of my life, that's my main aim and all I care about."
Love Island returns tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX*
