James Corden appeared to be in a tense confrontation with service staff once again after his flight from Portugal to Heathrow turned to chaos.
The Gavin & Stacey icon was pictured gesturing in front of a British Airways staff member and following his infamous clash with restaurant staff in 2022, people thought the actor was ruffling more feathers. However, that was quickly put to bed as the star has been praised by fellow passengers for taking a stand on their behalf after 'nightmare' delays ensued.
The Late Late Show host was said to have helped keep the mood as 'light as possible' after the aircraft was reportedly forced to return to the ground shortly after take-off. The plane reportedly rerouted to Lisbon, where travellers faced a three-hour wait before being informed that the aircraft was unfit for travel and had to disembark.
Amidst the chaos, James, who was also on board, became a source of entertainment and was seen taking selfies with fans. "He was just really nice," one passenger told Metro. "He would have been well within his rights to sit and sulk in his seat like the rest of us would be doing but he didn't."
It comes after his feud with restauranteur Keith McNally was reignited just last month. The boss, who briefly banned the star from his New York eatery Balthazar toward the end of 2022, took to Instagram to blast the comedian despite seemingly settling their previous disagreement.
James Corden almost played Brendan Fraser’s controversial role in The WhaleFor the last ever Carpool Karaoke, James invited his good pal Adele for a chat and a singalong in his car. But restauranteur Keith was far from impressed, writing: "Despite finding them slightly cringe-inducing, I've always loved James Corden's Carpool Karaoke. Last week was Corden's final carpool and his most cringe-inducing."
Branding the segment 'sickening', Keith continued: "At one point Adele theatrically broke down on camera. It was Complete, F***ing SCHLOCK. And of course James Corden – The King of Insincerity Himself – went along with it. It was the biggest pile of HORSE S*** I've seen in 40 years."
The savage jibe comes after the Smithy actor admitted to being rude to one of Keith's servers over a fiasco about eggs, which saw James branded a "gifted comedian" but a "cretin of a man" in a furious Instagram post shared by McNally. "The most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago," he said. Keith added he "86'd" The Late Late Show host – which is slang for throwing someone out or refusing to serve a customer.
He explained: "I don't often 86 a customer, to today I 86'd Corden. It did not make me laugh. Here are two examples of the funny man's treatment of my staff. He behaved similarly in my former restaurant, Cafe Luxembourg, a few years back." [sic]
The first read: "In June, James Corden was here on table 61. (Although this is diabolical, it happens Very occasionally in all restaurants.) After eating his main course, Corden showed the hair to Balthazar manager G. who was very apologetic. Corden was extremely nasty to G, and said: 'Get us another round of drinks this second. And also take care of all of our drinks so far. This way I write any nasty reviews in yelp or anything like that'."
The second read: "James Corden was at Balthazar with his wife on October 9th for brunch. He asked for a table outside. Brunch Maitre D' Allie Wolters took the party to table 301. Mr. Corden's wife ordered an egg yolk omelette with gruyere cheese and salad.
"A few minutes after they received the food, James called their server, M. K. and told her there was a little bit of egg white mixed with the egg yolk. M. K. informed the floor manager, G. The kitchen remade the dish but unfortunately sent it with home fries instead of salad.
"That's when James Corden began yelling like crazy to the server: 'You can't do your job! You can't do your job! Maybe I should go into the kitchen and cook the omelette myself!' M.K. was very apologetic and brought G. over to the table. He returned the dish, and after that, everything was fine.
"He gave them promo Champagne glasses to smooth things out. G. said that Corden was pleasant to him but nasty to the server. M.K. was very shaken, but professional that she is, continued to finish her shift." Keith later took to Instagram to say he had dropped his ban on James, claiming the comedian rang and issued a "grovelling apology".
Taking to Instagram, he wrote: "James Corden just called me and apologized profusely. Having f****d up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances. So if James Corden lets me host his Late Late Show for 9 months, I'll immediately rescind his ban from Balthazar. No, of course not.
James Corden confesses to Drew Barrymore why he's leaving The Late Late Show"But... anyone magnanimous enough to apologize to a deadbeat layabout like me (and my staff) doesn't deserve to be banned from anyway. Especially Balthazar. So come back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Corden, Jimmy Corden. All is Forgiven. xx"
On The Late, Late Show earlier the same week, James insisted he didn't shout or make any 'derogatory remarks', stating that his only mistake was making a 'snide' comment about preparing the offending omelette himself. "My wife explained that she has a serious food allergy," James informed viewers of his late-night programme, after alleging that his meal had been served incorrectly three times.
"The meals came, my wife was given the food that she was allergic to. She hadn't taken a bite of it or anything, no worries, we sent it back. All was good. As her meal came wrong to the table the third time, in the heat of the moment I made a sarcastic rude comment about cooking it myself. It is a comment I deeply regret."
James went on: "I worked shifts at restaurants for years, I have such respect for anyone who does that job. The restaurant manager and the server were lovely, they brought out four glasses of champagne and we were like 'that's not necessary, we don't need it', we had a great time. But here's the truth of it - because I didn't shout or scream , I didn't get up out of my seat, I didn't call anyone names or use derogatory language, I have been walking around thinking that I've not done anything wrong. But I have, I made a rude comment."
