Tottenham's Dejan Kulusevski has slammed the club's “hard to accept” post-season trip to Australia.

The North London side flew to Melbourne just hours after their final game of the 2023/24 season. Goals from James Maddison and Alexander Isak scored during the 1-1 draw with Newcastle before the Magpies won the resultant penalty shootout.

The trip has garnered widespread criticism, with player welfare being at the heart of complaints, with many involved only having limited time to rest before the Euros and Copa America kick off this summer.

Dejan Kulusevski has spoken out and has been critical of the decision to fly down under. As quoted by Fotbollskanalen, he said: "It was hard, but sometimes you just have to accept that you can’t decide everything in life

“The club made the decision that we had to go there and then I had to make the best of the situation. Of course it was tough. It was hard to accept, but nothing can be done. Others decide."

With Sweden not set to take part in the Euros, he opened up on what his summer plans are. Kulusevski added: "I work hard. No, but it's a last push before the holidays. I'm just trying to give everything I have left. Then I'll relax.

"I had to practice. I can't come to matches unprepared. I had been training anyway. It was nice to be able to be with the other friends in the team."

Kulusevski is not the only one of a Tottenham persuasion to have aired their complaints about the trip. Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was also not particularly happy and claimed he would have vetoed the trip had his side played in Europe this season.

He said: "I certainly wouldn’t have allowed it to happen if we were in Europe this year and had a bigger game schedule. I probably would have said no to it.

"And I don’t think the club would have expected us to go. If we’re in Europe next year, I don’t think you’ll be seeing this happen.

"I don’t think it’s ideal. But I think each situation is unique. For us, on the back of our season, to play one more game two days after the end of the season, there is substance to it for us.

"We had a discussion with the playing group really early on about it. They understood why we’re doing it and we all made a commitment to go and that’s going to happen."
