British foodies have been left gobsmacked after witnessing an American man trying hot cross buns for the first time.

Kalani Smith, better known as @kalanighosthunter on TikTok, boasts over three million followers who love watching his food reviews. He enjoys trying different foods from different countries - but a clear favourite is the UK. The content creator often travels to try some of our nation's favourite treats.

He previously reviewed chocolate Jammy Dodgers, Jelly Babies, Space Raiders, and had reviewed a number of places to visit including Newcastle, Leeds, and Scotland. He also reviewed Nando's, Greggs, and Toby Carvery. Recently the viral man decided to see if our beloved hot cross buns are really worth the hype.

But the way Kalani decided to warm up his steaming lemon and blueberry buns - from Co-Op - left Brits horrified. The ghost hunter's video gained over 200,000 views and was flooded with comments.

Kalani said: "As an American I always heard about hot cross buns but I have never had one, well today that changes. He planned to warm up the treats using an oven and some butter."

But the American man appeared confused by how to work a British oven. He said: "There's a lot of buttons here. This might be the wrong way to do it, but, I'm always screwing up." He popped two buns in the oven for around one minutes, upon taking them out he said they "look actually really yummy".

Tucking into the treats, he was immediately impressed. Kalani said: "These little devils are good you can definitely taste the blueberry and the lemon, it's definitely a dessert role. This and a cup of tea would be magical."

He gave them a score of 9.5 out of 10. But Brits rushed to share their thoughts on the way Kalani warmed up his hot cross buns - pointing out that using a toaster is the classic British way, and often much easier.

"The whole nation was screaming 'toaster' at you," said one hot cross bun fan. Then another joked: "Can we make him try these again but the correct way?"

A third Brit said: "Sorry man, you're going to have to have another go at that."
