A FATHER has shared his sheer horror after seeing the monikers given to his child's classmates - one of which he described as a ''tragedeigh''.

The dad explained how he was helping check students in and out at a school event - adding that he was roped in after his wife, who usually takes charge of ''parenting volunteering'', was called away on an emergency business trip.

Although the man was expecting to come across some more uncommon names on the class register, the horrified dad said that nothing could have prepared him for one boy's "terrible" moniker.

Sharing the story on the ''tragedeigh'' thread on Reddit, the term describes a name that's been ''deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is''.

He wrote: "My wife handles most of the parent volunteering but left today for an emergency business trip.

"She let me know there would be some unusual names which may make things difficult.

''Boy was I wrong when I thought I was prepared. Some of the tragedeighs really threw me for a loop."

He shared how a child approached him to be signed in - but despite carefully scanning the document for his moniker, the dad was struggling to find it, until the boy corrected him on its spelling.

The man went on: "One kid came up and gave me his name. Not a typical name but seemed easy enough to find.

''As I started searching the list for the expected first letter, he meekly interjected his name and started with another letter.

''Found his name, checked him off, and felt a massive wave of secondhand embarrassment.

''The poor kid's name was Feeighkniqs.

''I still feel terrible for the kid and hope he adopts a nickname."

Fellow Redditors were just as gobsmacked, as many wondered how it's meant to be pronounced.

Sharing their thoughts on the unusual moniker, one said: "Oh dear God! That poor kid."

Another chimed in: "Me, trying to sound the name out.

''I literally got so frustrated because I was staring at it and couldn't figure it out - then I said it a few times fast, and in the middle of the third time, it hit.

''PHOEN--Oh my god. I hadn't rolled my eyes that hard in a long time.

''That poor kid is right."

A third was left defeated, admitting: ''I'm sorry, but I cannot figure out how to pronounce that."
