Cleaning oven glass can be a real chore, as it's not just splattered with grease and food, but these can also get burnt onto the surface, making them stubborn to remove.

The longer you delay cleaning your oven glass, the tougher the job becomes. Plus, it's essential to keep on top of it as the build-up can harbour bacteria, making your oven less hygienic. Erin, a natural cleaning guru and founder of Lemons Lavender and Laundry, has revealed that cleaning an oven doesn't have to be a daunting task - all you need is one ingredient you probably already have in your kitchen.

She confessed: "I have to admit, I never really paid attention to the inside of my oven door. I simply ignored the fact that baked-on food had been accumulating for years. While there are lots of tips and tricks on how to clean a glass oven door, I love this method because it uses one simple, natural ingredient: baking soda."

Baking soda is alkaline, which means its high pH level can break down acidic substances like grease or burnt food. It's also mildly abrasive, so it can easily wipe away grime without scratching the glass, reports the Express.

Erin added: "While using baking soda takes a little more time and effort than using an oven cleaner, it certainly does the job; and without harmful chemicals."

How to clean a glass door with baking soda

  • To give your oven door a good clean, all you need is baking soda, a sponge, and a non-scratch scour pad to ensure you don't damage your oven glass.
  • Start by liberally sprinkling baking soda over the glass, then dampen the scour pad and use it to spread the baking soda until you've got a thick paste.
  • "The goal is to cover the entire glass oven door with the baking soda paste. If you find you do not have enough paste, simply add more baking soda and water."
  • "If the paste is thick and clumpy, add more water; if it's thin and runny, add more baking soda."
  • Let the paste sit on the glass oven door for about 30 to 60 minutes. For particularly grimy oven doors, it's best to let the paste work its magic overnight.
  • When it's time, re-wet the scourer and start scrubbing a small area - the dirt should come off effortlessly.
  • Once you've removed all the grime and burn marks, take a damp sponge to wipe away any leftover baking soda paste.

Erin was chuffed with her oven glass looking "like a mirror" after using the baking soda method, and she was thrilled with the outcome, sharing photos of her gleaming oven.

She exclaimed: "I'd say that was one successful cleaning tip! ".
