Kelly Osbourne sparks controversy as she says why she 'can't' get cancer

Kelly Osbourne has sparked major controversy in the latest The Osbournes podcast.

The mum-of-one, 39, was speaking to her famous family, mum, Sharon, dad, Ozzy and brother, Jack about her past substance issues, which are well-documented.

However, when Kelly joked she hopes she's "embalmed" herself with drink and drugs so she won't "ever get cancer", fans were concerned.

On the latest episode of her popular podcast, the foursome were discussing drug use as Kelly said: "I’m hoping that I’ve embalmed myself so I don’t ever get cancer." She added: "I’m pickled from all the drugs and alcohol, for sure."

Her younger brother Jack, 38, warned: "I don’t think it works that way" and fans of the family agreed. One responded to the podcast, saying: "Alcohol abuse can cause cancer, not prevent it." Another warned: "Drugs and alcohol — not a laughing matter." A third added: "I’m with Jack; it doesn’t work that way" while a fourth asked: "Is she unaware of the link between alcohol and breast cancer for example?"

After Kelly's comments, an ER doctor named Dr. Greg, who was a guest on the latest instalment of the show, quipped: "I, for one, have never heard of substances you put into your body causing ill effects of any kind."

The podcast also mentioned that colorectal cancer runs in the Osbournes family with Celebrity Big Brother star, Sharon, now 71, battling the illness in the early 2000s. Speaking about the genetic links of the disease, Kelly noted: "Apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree."

The former Fashion Police star, who welcomed her first child, Sidney, in November, 2022, has not shied away from discussing her past substance abuse issues. In 2021, Kelly revealed on the Facebook series Red Table Talk, she had an opioid prescription when she was just 13-years-old.

"I kept getting sick and I had a really bad case of tonsillitis, they ended up having to give me some crazy surgery, and then after that, they gave me Vicodin. And that was all I needed," she recalled.

Kelly added: "I went from having every voice in my head being like, 'You're fat, you're ugly, you're not good enough, no one likes you, you don't deserve this, people only like you because of who your parents are'. And then all of a sudden, every single voice was silenced and it felt like life gave me a hug. And then very quickly I went from Vicodin to Percocet, from Percocet to heroin eventually, because it was cheaper."

In 2021 ,she told Extra about a brief relapse, bravely admitting she was an "addict". Kelly confessed: "I am an addict and had thought that I had enough time under my belt and I could drink like a normal person, and it turns out I cannot and I will never be normal.I don't know why I even tried it. It's not for me and it took me a matter of days and I was like done, not doing this."

The Mirror has contacted Kelly's reps for comment.
