Simon Cowell has opened up about the hilarious moment his son Eric asked a rather surprising question about One Direction.
The youngster, 10, had no idea that his dad was behind the mega-boyband who were formed on The X Factor back in 2010. Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne all auditioned for the show as solo artists. However, after being knocked back at the BootCamp stage, the group were offered a lifeline.
Simon had an idea to form a boy band, One Direction, and a girl band, Belle Amie. However, it was guest judge Nicole Scherzinger who decided that the five lads would work well together, with the judges later revealing their decision and the lads sailing through to judges' houses.
Each week, the group sailed through to the next round before ultimately finishing in third place. Despite this, Simon signed them to his label, Syco and they went on to become the biggest band on the planet. Although Simon was partly behind the band, his son Eric seemingly had no idea.
During a recent chat on Capital FM Breakfast Show with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby, Simon opened up about a chat he had with Eric. Speaking about the band, Simon said: "I've got to be honest with you, they always make me feel good those records. I mean, A) because I have great memories and B) because I think they still sound like great records.

He actually said to me, 'Have you heard of this band called One Direction, Dad?' I went 'Yeah, why?' and he went 'Yeah, they're really, really good. And I went, 'Oh, thanks.'" Although Simon has not seen success with boybands since One Direction, he's hoping to find the next huge band.
He told the PA news agency: "I would pray to find a band as good as One Direction and to find the records as good as they made, there are so many factors involved to make a band successful all over the world. You can't fake this, even though I'm the one going out to do the auditions, it really depends on the individuals. If you find the right people I'm not someone who says dress like this, say this, do this, it is just not my style and I never once did that with One Direction."
However, Simon's decision has been met with criticism from social media users who have been left unimpressed by his latest venture after the 1D lads have spoken previously about how overworked they had been. Liam previously said: "We [One Direction] were definitely overworked. I had no personal life, I learnt nothing about myself.
"I just lived so long as this reclusive pop star who was afraid of people, who just stayed inside all the time. I needed to stop, definitely. It would have killed me."
