Geordie Shore's Holly Hagan is getting hearing aids after admitting she relied on lip-reading before the pandemic.
The reality 31-year-old TV star, who shot to fame on the MTV show set in Newcastle, said she was told she needed hearing aids in 2018, but "kept putting it off". She has now opened up about a recent health scare on a trip to Thailand, which made her realise she knew she had to get her hearing "sorted".
Speaking candidly about her health in a video on her TikTok page, Holly said: "When I was on the plane coming home, I was watching a film and they didn't have closed captions - they didn't have subtitles. And it's only then that I realise how bad my hearing actually is, and it just made me think like, God, first of all, why is there no subtitles on the plane? This is ridiculous. And secondly, I really need to try and get this hearing sorted."
Mother-of-one Holly, who gave birth to her son last year, revealed she is now going to get hearing aids, sharing: "So I'm thinking of potentially going to, like, Boots or Superdrug or any of these places that do the hearing tests and to also look at getting hearing aids."
Explaining that hearing loss is one of her "main causes of social anxiety", the reality star said she relied on lip-reading before the pandemic, but 'panicked' when everyone was suddenly wearing masks.
Holly Hagan reveals she's pregnant with first child with footballer husband"Everyone was wearing masks and I was like, 'Oh, my God, I can't understand what anybody is saying'," she explained, continuing: "And it was really difficult when I was going for my appointments when I was pregnant, because I couldn't understand what anyone was saying because their mouths were covered."
Holly, who has battled severe tinnitus for years, was praised by her followers for sharing her health update. As one fan told her they too were using hearing aids, they replied: "I have recently got them as I was struggling to hear. I went and got them tested and was told I needed them. At first I felt it was such a big thing but now best thing I’ve done."
Another said: "I’m 35 and I recently got a hearing aid because of tinnitus. It changed my life," while a third added: "I work in a shop and I’m exactly the same, I lip-read all the time and unless someone looks at me I don’t hear them. I’m 100% going to go get a hearing test done after seeing this."
Concluding her video, ahead of getting her hearing aids, Holly said: "I just think that my quality of life and my anxiety may be dramatically improved, and I won't actually know until I try."
