Who is Rudy Guede?

Rudy Guede was born on December 26, 1986, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, in West Africa.

He was convicted for the sexual assault and murder of Meredith Kercher in 2008, and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Rudy Guede's sentence was eventually reduced to 16 years, and he served 13 of those before being released on November 24, 2021.

Guede was originally set to be released from prison on January 4, 2022. However, he was released 45 days early for good behavior.

Guede's lawyer, Fabrizio Ballarini, told The U.S. Sun: "My client has paid his debt to justice. He is a free man.”

During Guede's interview with The U.S. Sun, the freed convict also said: "The first thing I want to say is to the Kercher family and how sorry I am for their loss.

"I have written a letter to them in which I explain to them how sorry I am but it’s too late to say sorry for not doing enough to save Meredith.

"The court accepted that I tried to save her by putting towels on her wounds."

He also disclosed: "The court convicted me of being an accessory to murder purely because my DNA was there but the (legal) documents say others were there and that I did not inflict the fatal wounds."

When he was asked about the wrongly convicted Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, he said: "I don’t want to say anything other than she should read the documents.

"As I told you, they say others were there and that I did not inflict the stab wounds. I know the truth and she knows the truth."

Where is Rudy Guede now?

According to the New York Post, Guede was rearrested for a separate charge in 2023.

His new arrest is over claims that he allegedly abused his ex-girlfriend.

The Post further reports that a judge issued a 1,600-foot restraining order and an electronic monitoring tag while he awaits trial.

Amanda Knox, who was wrongfully convicted in the murder case of Meredith Kercher, said that Guede has been "able to cause harm to more young women," since his release.

She made the statement through a tweet on X, shortly after the news of his arrest became public.

The tweet continued, "Guede was never held fully accountable for murdering Meredith, as he was only convicted of rape and of ‘participating in the murder.’

"Essentially he was charged with being an accomplice for a crime he committed alone. He was sentenced to 30 years.

"On appeal, that was reduced to 16. He was released on ‘good behavior’ after serving 13 years..."

What happened to Amanda Knox?

In 2009, Amanda Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were jailed for the murder and sexual assault of British student Meredith Kercher.

Knox received a 26-year sentence, and Sollecito was given a 25-year sentence.

The pair were acquitted of the crime in 2015 after it was found that there were serious failings in the original trial, as well as a lack of evidence.

Knox has since gone on to become an author and journalist and has spoken openly about her treatment during the ordeal.

In 2020, Knox told Good Morning America how she felt she was carrying the burden of Guede's crime.

"I continue to this day to be shocked that he is the forgotten killer," Knox said.

"The one who was quietly tucked away, convicted of a lesser crime, and does not have to live with the burden of forever being associated with Meredith’s death.

"I do know that many, many people have suffered a great deal because of what he did.”

On June 5, 2024, Knox was re-convicted of slander after accusing an innocent bar owner of the murder but will avoid jail time.
