Billie Shepherd opened up about how scared she was when her daughter Margot suffered a febrile seizure.
The former The Only Way Is Essex star, 34, tied the knot with her 39-year-old husband Greg in March 2019. The couple share three children - Nelly, nine, Arthur, seven, and their youngest child Margot, 16 months. Around the time of their fifth wedding anniversary this year, Margot had a virus.
She sparked alarm when she suffered a febrile seizure after her temperature spiked. The NHS says that a febrile seizure can happen when a child has a high temperature, and while you should get medical help, it's usually not a serious condition. She first shared the terrifying news with fans after it happened.
And in a new interview, the star opened up about how scared she was. She said: "It was the most scared I’ve ever been in my life, and the thing is, the doctors all said the seizures are more common than you think. I wanted to put it out there to maybe help other people."
Speaking to OK!, she explained: "We’ve always just been open and honest, I’ve not hidden anything. So putting something like that out there kind of gives people a sense of my normal, right?”
Jermain Defoe sparks marriage split fear after spending Christmas away from wifeSeries six of Billi & Greg: The Family Diaries has just started, and while Billie loves filming the show, she’s conscious her children might not want to feature in the future. “Filming is all the kids have ever known, really. But we’ve been quite good at keeping them normal and having a normal life because they’re normal kids. Still, I say to Greg sometimes, ‘It must be weird, being a kid and seeing yourself on TV!’.
“Arthur and Nelly really enjoy it, but ultimately, our kids’ happiness is always our number one priority. So when it’s not right for the family any more, we’ll stop. I would never, ever force my kids to do something.” After rushing her daughter to the hospital in March, Billie took to social media to update fans.
She said: "My little darling Margot has had a nasty virus, on Sunday Margot had a febrile seizure, it was the most terrifying moment of my life. It was caused due to a spike in her temperature, I was so scared and didn't know what to do, we of course called an ambulance and Margot was examined at the hospital."
She added that after talking to many doctors, they all told her the same thing - these seizures are quite common but not often talked about. So, she decided to share her story to help others know what to do in such a situation.
