As we sleep for a third of our lives, it’s important to take it seriously — which is why it’s always worth investing in the best when it comes to bedding. But some top-of-the-range options from quality brands can set you back by more than £1,000. The solution? Refurbished bedding.

These often-considerably discounted products haven’t been used, but rather had to be returned to the manufacturer for some reason — either they were faulty or the buyer simply changed their mind. Simba, one of the UK's best-known bedding brands, has an extensive range of refurbished products on site (including its bestselling Hybrid Mattress ), with some items discounted by up to 50%, meaning you can rest easy knowing you've saved money on premium sleep tech.

Simba Hybrid Mattress

Simba is well-known for its range of supportive mattresses, but the Hybrid is the real star. It has sold more than 1.2 million since its release and received more than 10,000 five-star reviews.

It’s made of foam and springs, which I rate for their perfect balance of support and comfort. The springy base is also worth mentioning — it barely makes a sound when I roll over at night, meaning my partner doesn’t get disturbed if I move around.

A refurbished double Hybrid Mattress is £519, saving you £350 from its original £869 price.

Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper

I can’t recommend this Hybrid Mattress Topper enough; its supportive foam base has helped to increase my comfort levels in bed, while its mesh lining and ventilation holes help to increase airflow and breathability, meaning I’m less likely to overheat at night. I’m a hot sleeper, and so far, so good — although I would still recommend investing in a good fan for when the inevitable heatwaves arrive in the summer.

A refurbished king-size topper costs £142.45, while a full-price option is available for £259.

Simba Orion Bed Base

Simba has some gorgeous bed bases, including this soft pink Orion design. Its muted hue and subtle curved silhouette make it a good choice for minimalists looking for something to blend seamlessly into their decor. It’s easily set up in less than 15 minutes, it’s comfy to sleep on and it looks good too.

A refurbished double frame is available for £499.50, down from the full price of £799. It's obviously not the cheapest, with more affordable options available from the likes of Argos.

Simba Hybrid Pillow

I invested in the Hybrid Pillow in early 2022 and it’s been one of my favourite purchases to date. It’s comfortable and supportive — I’ve not experienced any noticeable aches and pains in my neck and shoulders since using it — and it’s uber-plump, giving my bed a proper five-star hotel feel.

I paid full price for mine (£109), but you can pick up a refurbished version for a more reasonable £59.95. Much better — although it's nearly always out of stock, so be quick if you're tempted.

Does buying refurbished mean I'm still getting a top-quality product?

Simba claims that every refurbished product follow a thorough process to ensure shoppers are still buying a top-quality item.

The process includes:

  • Examining the quality and function of every product by hand and sight
  • Replacing any part of the item that fails inspection with authentic Simba parts
  • Deep cleaning all items to hospital standards

What else?

Simba isn’t the only sleep brand that offers quality bedding at a low price; Emma Sleep has a little-known outlet that offers big discounts to shoppers. That includes up to 65% off mattresses, mattress toppers and bed frames.
