Rita Ora has shared a rare insight into her role as stepmother to husband Taika Waititi's two kids.

The 33-year-old hitmaker described herself as being like a "fairy godmother" to 48-year-old Taika's two kids and explained she has no "responsibility" and can just have fun with Te Kainga O'Te Hinekahu, 11, and seven-year-old Matewa Kiritapu, who the Oscar-winning filmmaker shares with his ex-wife Chelsea Wistanley.

Ask and You Shall Receive singer Rita was speaking on Jessie and Lennie Ware's Table Manners podcast when she said of being a stepmother: "Oh, I love it. It just feels really cool because it's like, um, I'm just the fairy godmother that doesn't actually really have any responsibility."

Elsewhere in Rita's interview, she said living in New Zealand is a "game changer" and added that it feels like a "home away from home". Rita, who tied the knot with Taika Waititi in August 2022, shared: "You know, half of my family and his kids go to school in New Zealand and so, yeah, we're always there. Auckland, we have a place literally on the water. It's really nice. I feel like New Zealand is obviously so far, if you make an effort together, it's a game changer."

She went on: "I've done The Voice there obviously for a few years and so, I've been there like a big, big, chunk out of my year. I haven't done it now - I mean, I didn't do it last year now but yeah, it's like a home away from home for me. I had really liked Australia and then obviously that's where I met my husband."

On the moment, they "clicked", Rita added: "It was in Sydney. I was doing The Voice and he was filming Thor Ragnarok and it just, yeah, that's just where we kind of clicked."

Rita previously shared she wants to eventually have a big family and froze her eggs on her doctor's advice so that if she has to delay having a baby she has a back-up.

In an old interview on Australian TV show Sunshine, she previously said: "Me being 27 soon, I thought about this when I was in my early 20s, about kids. Maybe that is me being a hypochondriac, but I have always wanted a big family and my doctor asked me, 'I think you should freeze your eggs when I was in my early 20s', that is what he said to me. He has been my family doctor for a long time and he said you are healthy now and it would be great, why not put them away and then you never have to worry about it again?"

Rita admitted she wanted to be "safe" and accepts that some people might think she was "crazy". She added: "I think it depends on people's beliefs and I'm a big believer in using what we have in making the most of it. I have never said that on TV, and I'm 26 so I know people might say, 'Wow, that's so young'. I just wanted to really be safe. Maybe that is me being crazy."
