NFL legend Larry Allen tragically passed away at 52 while on holiday with his family in Mexico, leaving behind a grieving wife and three children, with his daughter paying an emotional farewell to her father.

The Dallas Cowboys icon's death was confirmed by the team on Monday. In a heartfelt statement, the Cowboys honoured their former player: "Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL," they said.

The tribute continued, highlighting his influence on the game: "His versatility and dependability were also signature parts of his career. Through that, he continued to serve as inspiration for many other players, defining what it meant to be a great teammate, competitor and winner. He was deeply loved and cared for by his wife, Janelle - whom he referred to as his heart and soul, his daughters Jayla and Loriana and son, Larry III."

"The pain of losing you will stay with me forever.. You were my best friend and twin. People always said we were so much a like and that always made me smile. I know you are in peace and with granny. I love you always and forever! Rest in peace."

Alongside her emotional tribute, Jayla shared a series of photos capturing precious moments with her dad over the years. These included a snapshot of him in hospital scrubs on the day she was born, a picture from her 13th birthday, and another featuring him proudly wearing his Hall of Fame jacket.

Allen had an illustrious career as an offensive lineman for the Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers from 1994 to 2007. His pivotal role in the Cowboys' 27-17 Super Bowl XXX victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1996 earned him a place in the Hall of Fame in 2013.
