NFL legend Tom Brady has taken a cheeky swipe at his former coach, Bill Belichick, during the Netflix special "The Roast of Tom Brady".

Brady and Belichick, who together led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl victories, have been the subject of much debate over who was the true architect of the team's success.

After leaving the Patriots in 2019, Brady went on to win another Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while Belichick and the Patriots have struggled in recent years.

In a direct jibe at his former coach, Brady asked: "I have been out of the game for a minute so I'm curious... how many Super Bowl rings have you won since I left?"

He added: "Maybe it's not just the guy on the sideline... When I go to the Indy500, I don't go to the winning driver's sideline and say, 'Hey, who gassed up your car?"

The evening was filled with jibes at Brady, with Belichick himself grabbing the mic to deliver a few zingers, alongside a host of celebs and Brady's ex-teammates.

Belichick couldn't resist a dig at Brady's soccer venture, Birmingham City FC, which saw a demotion from the EFL Championship this past weekend after Brady became part-owner last year.

He quipped: "I see your soccer team, Birmingham City, got knocked down another tier in the English football leagues. For those not familiar with English football and the intricacies of their obscure regulation system... let me put it in English for you: they suck."

Then, turning his attention back to Brady, Belichick remarked: "Not so easy running a team, is it, Tom? " He also had a comeback for Brady's earlier jest about who really deserved the credit for their shared success during their Patriots days.

Belichick retorted: "For all of you out there who think about who's responsible for the Patriots' success during the time Tom and I was together - was it Tom or me - in reality the truth of the matter was it was both of us because of me."
