Shocking CCTV footage shows missing TV doctor Michael Mosley after the coastal walk many feared could have caused him harm.

Dr Michael Mosley headed out from St Nickolas beach on the Aegean island of Symi on Wednesday afternoon at around 1.30pm. He was planning to walk along the coast to the village of Pedi - which is said to take around 20 minutes.

Some said that the hike was dangerous, leading the search and rescue effort to focus a large part of the operation on that hiking trail.

However, CCTV footage emerging in the past few hours appeared to show the This Morning star walking around his destination point at around the same time he would've expected to arrive.

A clip shared exclusively with The Mirror from outside the Blue Corner Cafe on Pedi beach showed Dr Mosley carrying an umbrella to shield him from the sun at 1.52pm. He does not look as though he has sustained any injuries.

It comes as the island's mayor Papakalodoukas Lefterios told the Mirror search and rescue teams are now focusing on a two-kilometre stretch of land between Pedi and Gialos after halting water searches.

He said: "They have not yet found anything - it is a mystery this disappearance. The police of Simi, the Coast Guard and forces from Athens, including police and criminal investigators, are working non-stop and will be working non-stop till they find any clue.

“I very much doubt there is a criminal aspect in this case. At least as far the local community is concerned. I very much doubt that any of the inhabitants of the island has acted in that way."

He added: "I do believe however, the elder man walking on his own without a phone in an unknown island and 35°C of heat could lead to many conclusions.

"He could have had unknown health issues triggered by the heat and he could’ve wondered through unknown paths and had an accident. Had he followed the right path I believe that everything would have been okay”.

The search for the missing TV personality is now in its third day. Helicopters, drones, dogs and a number of emergency responders are currently combing the area of the Dodecanese Island where he was last seen. Local police were informed about the disappearance of the 67-year-old British national on the island on Wednesday.

A search is being carried out by the Fire Brigade with the assistance of forces of the Hellenic Police, Civil Protection (a local and regional coordination agency), volunteers and a police dog, with drones also being used to find Dr Mosley.
