A Boeing 737-300 plane carrying 78 people skidded off the runway during take-off after its wing burst into flames in frightening scenes.

Footage shows the aftermath of the crash with the Transair plane’s wing covered in fire suppressant foam at Blaise Diagne International Airport near Dakar, Senegal. According to reports, the aircraft's left wing and engine burst into flames during a horror take off due to a hydraulic issue during acceleration at take off. Shocking images show the aircraft nestled in the dirt with a gaping hole in the left engine that was covered in firefighting foam in the aftermath of the blaze.

Out of the 78 people evacuated, around 11 people were injured, with four seriously hurt, including a pilot. An update on their condition is not yet known. Meanwhile, all flights at the West African airport - the largest in Senegal - have been suspended.

Airline Transair is based at Blaise Diagne airport and operates domestic flights and international routes within West Africa. Global aviation safety body Jacdec tweeted: "Flight #HC301 on behalf of Air Senegal from Dakar to Bamako experienced a hydraulic issue during acceleration for take-off on runway 01 resulting in a runway excursion.

"11 of the 78 people on board sustained injuries." The Mirror has contacted Blaise Diagne International Airport and Transair for comment. A clip taken by one horrified passenger showed a female customer sprinting away from the scene of the wreckage as flames poured from the 737's left engine, lighting up the night sky.

The frightening incident comes just a day after a Boeing aircraft - a 767 cargo plane operated by FedEx - crashed upon landing in Turkey after its landing gear failed. The front wheels on the FedEx cargo plane appeared not to be operating as the a767 aircraft landed, causing the nose of the plane to fall forward and skid to a halt before being attended by emergency vehicles.

The plane was on a flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Istanbul. Nobody onboard was injured and the crew of the plane were able to safely evacuate, according to Turkey’s transportation and infrastructure minister, Abdulkadir Uraloglu. The plane had to land with guiance form the airport tower in the morning of May 8. The runway where the plane landed was closed off while the aircraft was being removed, he said.
