Relationships are tricky and often require compromise from both parties, especially when it comes to individual friendships. No matter how much you love your partner, there’s no guarantee that you’re going to love their friends.

One disgruntled woman has taken to Reddit to reveal that her fiance’s best friend has been causing drama in their relationship due to the way she treats her. The couple, who have been together for just under six years, generally have a "great relationship" with all their friends and family getting along, apart from this one friend of her partner’s.

She explained: “Said best friend has never liked me and seemingly had it out for me the entire time. She basically ignores my existence, refuses to speak or be cordial to me, but as soon as she sees my partner, she yelling and hugging him talking about 'hey best friend' while ignoring me even though I’m right next to him.”

The woman explained to him how "upset" the situation made her feel, but he failed to do anything about it and said he "needed proof to make sure there was an issue". Once he realised that his friend had a problem with the poster he spoke with said friend about it and her behaviour improved slightly.

She explained that the behaviour was short-lived and said: “A couple weeks ago we attended a mutual friends party. I attempted to make eye contact and say hello 2-3 times but she avoided me and refused to look at me the whole time. My fiancé noticed because it was so blatant. I don’t want her respect, don’t need her to like me, don’t honestly want her around at all, I just want her to have basic human decency.”

The woman felt so badly about how her fiancé allowed his friend to treat her that it has caused her to rethink the entire relationship and explained: “I feel my fiancé is in the wrong for engaging with her after seeing how she completely disregards me. I think now but mostly after marriage we’re supposed to be a unit and I wouldn’t allow this behavior from a friend.

“I told him she can’t come to our wedding, as I won’t have someone who can’t seem to stand me near me then. AITA for telling my fiancé she can’t come to our wedding?”

Other Reddit users were quick to comment on the post with one writing: “NTA but I am surprised that you decided to marry someone who allows such behaviour toward you.” A second added: “Nta. She's in love with your man. Upset that he's with you and pretending like you don't exist makes her feel better. She won't say or do anything to make him upset. She's saying she has no problem with you is because the problem isn't with you technically it's with him.”

While a third said: “He cares more about her feelings than yours. Think about that for a moment. He should have shut this down the second he saw her treating you like this. The problem lies with your fiancé. NTA.”

The poster created a second Reddit threat where she explained: "The comments on my original post opened my eyes and made me realise that despite this being the healthiest relationship I’ve been in, it doesn’t mean it’s actually healthy. We’ve had a couple conversations surrounding this issue, which mostly consisted of me saying it bothered me & him saying he I was the only one who cared.”

She also explained how she was upset when her partner said that "he didn’t want to end his friendship or do anything to jeopardise it because ‘what if we break up’’ which made her ‘realize he would not protect me as his wife, since he didn’t as his girlfriend." The woman also revealed that she has now ended the relationship and won’t be marrying her partner as planned.
