Todd Boehly has dropped the biggest hint yet that Mauricio Pochettino will still be at Chelsea next season after praising recent performances.

Pochettino, 52, signed a two-year contract to become the Blues' new head coach last summer but has endured a challenging maiden campaign at the helm, with his status for next year still unclear.

It has been speculated that Chelsea would look to dispense with Pochettino's services given their poor position in the Premier League table - but the former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain chief has overseen a significant upturn in performances.

Chelsea are now in the mix for a top-six finish after beating Spurs and West Ham in recent weeks, the latter in a convincing 5-0 win. And Boehly has expressed his delight at said performances, admitting the narrative surrounding the Blues has changed.

Speaking at a Sportico event in Los Angeles, Boehly said: “We’ve seen, over the last two and a half games at least – the second half of Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham – where we played just beautiful football. It was so fluid. It was exactly the way we drew it up.

“The number of shots we had on goal in those two and a half games, you could really start to see what we were working on coming together. Our goal is obviously to win. And the commentary has changed over the last two and a half games. I’ve never seen anything change so quickly than prospective on how a team does.”

Boehly's comments come just weeks after reports emerged claiming the club were giving 'serious consideration' to replacing Pochettino in the summer.

And the turnaround comes less than a month after a number of irate Chelsea fans took to social media to demand Pochettino be sacked during their chastening 5-0 defeat to London rivals, Arsenal.

Prior to that derby drubbing, Pochettino had called for clarity on his future. Speaking in a press conference earlier this month, he said: “We were talking about the judgment at the end of the season, if I feel I am under scrutiny. But to prove, after all these circumstances, that we deserve to be here next season … I say: ‘Who is going to judge me?’ I need to judge myself and all the players and of course with all the circumstances.

“But I wanted to say that it is enough with these type of rumours. If I have one more year on my contract here, and no one says nothing, suppose that I am going to be here. [We leave] only if then we finish the season and someone says to me: ‘Ciao.’

“Because we don’t know at the moment. I suppose I have one more year on my contract and that I am going to be here. But enough about the stupid rumours. You need to ask the club if they want me to keep going or not – not to write things that have no sense.”
